Default Clutch Fluid

Ok, just replaced my clutch fluid. It was nasty to say the least. Dirt, grime, clutch dust, water, you name it and it was there. Any solutions to this problem other than replacing the fluid? Is GM going to recall this issue? I am sure eventually major transmission and clutch problems will arise if left unchecked. If any of you know of a solution/remedy for this problem I would appreciate a heads up, Thanks..FNunez

I've been swapping my fluid before every drag strip event and after since new. Just normal maintenance in our cars, good thing is it's really easy.

There's about zero chance of a recall; under standard waxer Corvette usage, it'll likely never cause any problem. It becomes a problem with the pedal sticking to the floor under hard usage, particularly when you mod the car.

Here's a great write up:

JoeG, thanks for your reply.
Very simple to do is right, I will just added to changing the oil on a 3000 mile basis regardless of being dirty or not. I will check out the link you send and also there is a youtube video on it by Ranger, great stuff. Thanks again, FNunez.

I don't think it makes sense to change it out so often if it stays clean.
With my early '05, I used to do it often with dark fluid and grabby clutch. Roughly every month.

I'm not sure if it was the clutch master replacement a few years back, or the fact that I don't 'get on it' much anymore (heat). But my fluid stays clear, the clutch smooth, and I no longer change it routinely. Maybe yearly now.

Hoonose,

I own a 2008 Z06, thats the problem, it doesnt stay clear because it has a design flaw that picks up clutch dust, water, etc..., so even if it stays clear (it wont) it still gets corrupted. So I feel that it should be changed or added to the things to replace at scheduled oil changes. Thanks for your input. FNunez

Very common problem. Just follow the Ranger method for routine fluid change whenever it goes brown again. Five minute maintenance. I do mine every couple of months or so.

every oil change, change the clutch fluid its really very easy .You can do it with a turkey baster and wipe well around the reservoir before putting new fluid in then pump your pedal twenty times and presto feels like new again. If you go to the track and dump the clutch often then change the clutch fluid every second time you go.It makes a huge difference.Cool outside temperature and clean clutch fluid are two of the key elements in order to run really fast quarter mile times. The other is great traction.Once you have those three things in place let the good times roll.

As mentioned above, the new fluid will not remain clear. I've changed mine out once already and will do it again before my next long road trip. It's just part of the maintenance the car needs.
