So, following years of no issues whatsoever, the battery cable itself decided to have problems. Previously the positive terminal had become contaminated with acid from a not so great battery that I put in that had developed small cracks around the post. The design of the clamp itself is worthless and was forever a little lose so you all might wish to pay attention to your own.
I bought a new cable assembly over a year ago so that when I got a chance to get the car on a lift, then I would replace it. I was getting an oil change at the dealer and they pointed out how bad the cable connection was and I confirmed it was indeed time to change. I elected to let them do it a couple of days later.
Good thing I did as on the way to the dealer, voltage was all over the place and even right in front of the dealer, lost all power for half a second. Turns out the major crimp on the postive post was defective or contaminated and defective, All's good now with a new cable. Yes, I went back to an AGM battery at the same time.
The positive factory clamp on our 2009 broke, so I went to the parts store and got a good set of real clamps. Had a shop use a cutting wheel to slice the old clamps lengthwise and pry them open, so I didn't lose any length. Be sure to drape everything in/around the engine compartment, you'll have metal chips everywhere. Works great.
