Dumb question: why do my front tires appear to be wearing faster than the rear set?

You probably need an alignment, many have found Corvettes come from factory out of specs. If you have a Grand Sport or ZO6 they also have soft tires and a aggressive alignment that eats front tires. A good shop can set front end to give good tire life. GM will give you a free alignment check if you complain about handling and have low miles--don't know what milage limit is for free alignment. They will probably only set car to factory specs so many on Forum just have alignment done at a good shop that will set car up for tire life. Be sure to have a four-wheel alignment done. I did and it made a world of difference and greatly improved the enjoyment of driving.

The Pfadt Street specs are a very nice balance between tire life, cornering, and stability. They are within the very broad GM specs, so a dealer should be willing to use them if you supply a copy. Be sure they set a little toe-IN as the specs allow, not toe-out.

It's rare for the alignment to be out of spec, with GMs ridiculously large tolerances. Rather, it could be close to the extremes, and/or highly irregular from one wheel to the next. So yes, it's nice to get it uniformly done and somewhere in the middle of the spec. I've heard of many botched alignment jobs, so I'll wait until a tire wear pattern is clear, and realign only if necessary. But to each his own.

We have purchased three new Corvettes (2001, 2006, 2009). I had the alignment checked on each of them between about 1,000 and 4,000 miles. Every one of them had at least one alignment parameter that was outside of even the broad GM specs.

You are correct that GM has excessively large alignment tolerances, but the cars still manage to be even worse.
