I will be purchasing 1 7/8" coated headers (3"X) and wanted to ask anyone that has installed them, if there are any fitment issues? I read one guy had some issue with the clearance on his C6Z. Is there an issue with this on the LS2? Is there any trimming, bending, folding, banging that will need to be done to get them to fit and not make contact with any part of the car?
you came back yet or still out?just installed mine a few weeks ago.piece of cake you can do it.pass. side motor mount needs to be lifted just a bit to clear from underneath.driver side slid right in.I have LGs 1 7/8s.tuned by BSM.
awesome I like it.tweaked some tables/parameters/shift firmness not a full tune though and got rid of the cel for the rear 02s.gotta throw it on the dyno sometime soon and see where Im at.some news when you get back.tonys z06 is blown eric got rid of his yellow one and picked up a blk. 06 c6 and also blown procharger p1sc.looks like Im the slowone right now.when you get back we have a total of 4 blk. c6 and 1 blk. z06.
I had headers that needed trimming on my car but fit perfectly on my friends car when I demodded mine. Cars have slight variances, it doesnt mean the headers are a bad design. Its a tight fit.
Spin, thanks for the info. Are you saying you had to trim the headers or the car? Coated headers seem to always look better after some miles are put on them, while the uncoated always get that dull finish. Thought about hitting the inside with Eastwoods new internal exhaust coating. Have you heard anything about it (good/bad)?
Rex, when did Tony decide to do the SC? Did he go headers as well? Where did Eric pick up his new car? It's not going to be as easy to spot him any more. You'll get yours done in no time. Or maybe... you could put the bottle to it. Should take a 200 shot.

It wasnt a trim but to bend a tab. Its non-existent with kooks or LG and I had to do it only once with AR headers.

I just slid a pair of LG's on my buddys car yesterday. The drivers side slid right in from the bottom and the passenger side went in from the top by just loosening the starter and moving it out a little, as the header slides by. They clear perfect on his 2007 LS2 except I noticed the brake lines wrapped in heat material was against the header in one spot ( on drivers side fram rail).
Sorry, just realized you are going with Kooks. They are also good headers.
I did mine on jackstands. Just get the car up about 18 inches. I've heard that on Z51 cars the oil cooler lines need to be moved. I have also heard that some have to bend or trim the lip of the body where the tubes wrap down, but I never had a problem & I run 1 7/8 Kooks long tubes on my car.

last month after he got beat once by Poole blk. 5.0 stang Calvins co worker from the sub.lol.afterthat its every weekend anything goes on the streets with him.everything stock except for the sc.picked it up from his friend 06 ls2.his running ccw polish rims with a widebody rear conversion.also has aftermarket fiberglass hood.maybe from the rear but he has no blk. out kit like mine but youll get thrown off thinking its me cause of the widebody rear.aahh no hurry for me doing 2 things at the same time front zr1 conversion and blower cam/pinning the crank at the same time.no bottle on this one.Ill play with that on the 2 camaros.FI and building this one for the streets.
I have a 08 Manual c6 and my Kooks 1 7/8 went in perfectly no bending cutting or anything. One side was tighter than another but they still went in like magic.
Kooks 1 7/8" on my LS3 installed by forum vendor Brian at RPT Austin. No fitment issues. Both sides install easily from underneath without unbolting or moving engine. Plenty of room around starter.
LS2's they just slide in with no issues. That includes the LS3 too. The C6Z is different and the battery cables get in the way and the best thing to do is disconnect them. Otherwise, you have a change of cutting them with the header flange.

I put Kooks 1 7/8" headers w/cats on my Z06 this past spring. I did it on jack stands (about 18" in the air) with no problems. Disconnect the battery before you start. The drivers side when up without problems, just be careful of the wires. On the passenger side I have to disconnect the main (large) battery cable from the starter. After that I was able to slide it up into place. If you have a dry sump oil system you will need to drain the oil and disconnect the oil lines from the oil pan.
I did not need the O2 extensions for the forward O2 sensors. Make sure all the wire and connectors are as far from the headers as possible. The rear O2 sensors run the cables above the tunnel plate or the cable connectors will melt!! Leave all the connections loose until everything is in place, muffler tips are lined up and then tighten everything down!!
The hardest part to me was taking the old exhaust out. I disconnected the stock exhaust after the cats and just removed the manifolds and cats as an assembly out through the bottom.
One more thing, use the old exhaust manifold gaskets or get new GM gaskets. I did not care for the ones that they supplied with the headers.
