My dad has a 2007 convertible with the NAV/XM audio unit. He's having intermittent problems with the radio, but based on other posts I've read and the audio FAQ his problems are unique for two reasons:
- The radio will sometimes stay off for a week+ at a time (won't power up, no display); a simple restart does not cure the issue
- More strangely, when it does turn on it sometimes because fully and completely inoperable and will not turn back off. Even when the screen is on no buttons work (including power and volume).
The car has only 60,000 or so miles. To the best of my knowledge he has not had battery issues and has not had any software updates performed.
Has your dad had a chance to take the vehicle into his local dealer? I would recommend having them take a look to get a diagnosis. I can also look into this for you on my end with the last eight of your VIN. Contact me or Evan privately for more assistance. Thank you.

Local dealer had to replace the radio in my 06 coupe under GM warranty. Radio had a display, but no sound, intermittently. They tried reflashing it per GM instructions, but eventually had to replace it.
