I have a 2005 Corvette C6, the car has always ran smoothly with no issues. The car was parked in the garage for a couple of hours, decided to head out to store, and not even 2 blocks from the house the car turned off. I tried to crank it up, however, all you seem to hear is the car cranking as if its trying to turn on, however, will not turn back on. Any help is appreciated. I have no idea what it may be...
Can be anything with your description. If its turning, the starter and battery are ok.
Things to check are fuel pressure, spark, and the timing chain.
To check thefuel pump, key on the car withot cranking. If you hear a buzzing for about 5 seconds of keying on, thats the pump priming.
The timing chain would require that you remove one valve cover to see if the rocker arms are moving, if not, you have a pretty big problem. Heads must come off to replace valves which will have a number of them bent and the chain itself needs replacing. The cam can have damage too.
Spark needs tools/timing light.
Please post the solution when its fixed so others have a reference.
Do you think it may also be the crank/run relay? Or the alternator?
Not going to be the alternator.
Can you let us know your car repair experience? Some things we might suggest are a little dangerous and if you're not somewhat experienced you might just want to have it towed to a trusted mechanic and save yourself a headache.
One thing anyone can do and will help keep you from getting taken for a ride at the dealer is to check the codes..the car often tells you what is wrong and folks on this forum can usually tell you what is causing them if you don't know.
Is the check engine light on? If so, buy or borrow a code scanner and use it and post up the results. They are worth buying...I carry one with me and have helped many people by scanning their codes.
Sounds silly but are you out of gas? Happens more than you think.
You can check if your fuel pump is working by carefully popping open the fuel rail Schrader valve with a rag around it, but that's dangerous as you could have fuel spraying around if you don't know what you are doing.
man,we need a better description then "trying to turn".
Is the starter just clicking?
or you can hear the engine actually turning (rotating). This is the biggest question.
Both would suggest different ways to test the problem
So this morning I went ahead and had the battery charged, checked the relays and the fuel pump relay was out. I went ahead and changed the relay and the car turned on fine. I took it for a test drive and for about 20 minutes the car worked fine, until it turned off again. I checked the fuel pump relay located on the passengers side of the hood and sure enough the relay had gone out again. I took it to an electrical place, they said it has to be the fuel pump since the car just cranks... My vette, will be serviced on Monday. Will keep you guys intune with the overall outcome.
Fuel pump is in the tank, which means dropping the tank(s). Make sure whoever you take it to knows what they are doing.
By the way, it would be most useful if you fill out your profile so we know where you are and who you are. I personally get blown away by the number of people coming on the forum who offer advice or ask for help and don't have the courtesy to let us know about themselves via their profile.
Yes, they have experience within this line of business. Profile set up...

Long story short, a week ago, I ended up taking the car in for service to an electrical place, and the tech ended up saying that I had a fuel pump issue with my car. Since my car is used as a DD, I needed it completed right away and didn't have much time to get a second opinion. It turned out several days later after my car was serviced and running while on the road it turned off. I new at that point it was NEVER A FUEL PUMP ISSUE. It turns out that the fuel gauge reading was off by 35 miles. My car indicated it still had some gas, yet it was on empty at that point. Added gas, and it turned on. LESSON LEARNED= when it comes to an electrical issue, please get a SECOND OPINION... As far as the gauge reading being off by 35 miles or so.... Does anyone know what I can do to fix that. My quick and simple solution is just to make sure that my car is always on a full tank... However, I would like to fix this for piece of mind...
J/K I'm glad to hear it worked out. An electrical gremlin can be a bear.
Your fuel sensors are in your tank and they do sometimes go bad, but more on the c5 vs the c6. Unfortunately you must drop the tanks again, both of them, to change them.
Techron has been known to clean them and restore function on c5's.
Personally, I'd just use Chevron gas and fill up more often.
