Hi Everyone! I'm new to this forum (my first post -- been stalking a while though!) I'm also new to the corvette world (was always a mustang guy but a few months back I sold my 97 Cobra.. and now I have an 06 Coupe! I love it to death!
My question: (ive searched around and not found an answer.. hope this isnt a repeat)
I've noticed, when i click on the buttons (mileage, info etc.) with the radio off, after the beep i will get a hiss sound for about 1 1/2 seconds? Has anyone else experienced this? (Non-bose system)
I think I know what you're talking about.
My 2006 with Bose does the same thing.
Sorry to hear that but I'm glad I'm not the only one... It's not all the time but it is annoying! It's a white noise sound for anyone that hasn't heard it.
Any ideas?
Thanks for the welcome btw! I have a Base radio, no nav, no mods.
It's fine...it's just background noise after the chime or beep as you go through the buttons. I guess when the recorded the chime and beep for the different warnings, etc, the recording system also picked up background static.
It's nothing to worry about.
Thanks for all the replies guys, I'm going to try this tomorrow:
Chime Level Adjustment
The radio is used to adjust the vehicle’s chime level.
To change the volume level of the chime, press and hold
pushbutton 6 with the ignition on and the radio power
off. The volume level will change from the normal
level to loud, and LOUD will appear on the radio display.
To change back to the default or normal setting,
press and hold pushbutton 6 again. The volume level
will change from the loud level to normal, and NORMAL
will appear on the radio display. Only one chime will
be heard when changing from the normal to the
loud setting. Each time the chime volume is changed,
three chimes will sound as an example of the new
volume selected. Removing the radio and not replacing
it with a factory radio or chime module will disable
vehicle chimes.
So this morning I held button #6 down to set the chimes back down to "Normal" as they were set to loud as I expected. The beep is lower and so is the white noise sound, so it's it's still audible.
If the sound is actually pre-recorded then I'd say its the cheapest "beep" i've ever heard. I have done tons of audio engineering and sound design.. I could synthesize a "beep" in less than 5 seconds without white noise.. that's just not acceptable!
I've been considering replacing the stock head unit anyway.. this just makes me want to even more!
If you hit the 'auto volume' button on your radio, I bet that will take care of it. I was having the same nagging issue after swapping out the nav unit for the 6 disc changer(for the aux input) and the auto-adjust button being turned off fixed it.
Very interesting...I have that same brief white noise hiss when I'm toggling through the buttons on the instrument cluster, but didn't know I could lower its volume. It doesn't really bug me, but making it quieter would be good.

Interesting.. I'll check this out when I get out of work!

The volume is loud and louder . It's at low from the factory, so you'd probably raise it . But doesn't hurt to try. I have nav, and haven't looked how to change it on that one, but it's probably on low too. Wish I could mute it. Freaking chime is so 80s . But doesn't really bug me either.

Excited to be part of this forum!
The tone generator (chime) in produced by a circuit in the radio. My guess would be the radio would need to be replaced to correct this condition.
This is what the chime-module does (on mine at least, not sure if it's all Vettes). The hiss happens when the chime-ding engages and it ups the volume a touch, especially noticeable if you don't have any tunes playing. You also have two chime-volume settings, maybe yours is set on "High" instead of normal (check your manual for adjusting) ...
