Was the 27-spline '09 differential any different than the previous years? I heard it was stronger, but haven't seen any proof.

I'm interested to see if there have been any 30 spline mainshaft failures in the T56 or TR6060's(Z06/Grandsport/ZR1.....6060 was introduced in 2008)

Some quick notes on C6 trans/diff progression:

>>Manual Transmission

NOTE: ALL 2008 up C6's use the TR6060(although different versions(ie: 27/30 spline/ratio's/gear material/etc.)
NOTE: different gear ratio's used (base/Z51/GS/Z06/ZR1)
1a. 2005 manual/auto C6's used the older "C5 style" 5 bolt tailhousing, although the diff sidecovers used the C6 style mounts(2 mounts fwd of axle vs. 1 center mount below diff case on C5)
1. ALL base manual C6's rec'd 27spline trans mainshafts
2. ALL Z06/Grandsport/ZR1 manual C6's rec'd 30 spline mainshafts
2a. ZR1 also used 4615 steel for the gears/shafts(see "blownblueZ06's post in C5 FI for details)
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-f...ous-power.html
3. ALL 2006up A6's rec'd 30 spline mainshafts
4. The 27 or 30 spline transmission mainshaft will coincide with the differential(pinion gear)
[B][I][SIZE="3"][COLOR="Blue"]

>>Automatic Transmission

1. 2005 was the ONE year to use the 4spd 4L60, 27 spline output??
2. 2006up used the A6, 30 spline output

>>Differential

1. 2005's, again the oddball C6 diff, 5 bolt trans/diff interface, 2005 diff's seem to crack often in the aft/lower center casting. ALL 2005 diff's use 27 spline pinion gears.
2. ALL 2006-2013 A6 diff's use 30 spline pinion gears.
2. 2006 was the first year of the "8 bolt trans/diff interface
3. 2006-2013 Z06's rec'd a unique case and bigger ring/pinion than the base cars. ALL Z06 diff's are 30spline
4. 2010-2013 Grandsport, I am not aware of any changes from the GS from the Z06 diff.
5. 2009-2013 ZR1, sitting on the 3rd shelf if you will, the massive ribs on the ZR1 castings set it apart from it's C6 base and Z06 siblings from 10 feet away, if you have any info on internal changes of the ZR1 vs. the Z06, please share
6. 2009 there was a change to the Torque Tube, I have not verified if this was only on the ZR1 are across the board on C6 production. ZR1 used a different heat exchanger for the diff (Thanks Rodney@RPM for the info)

Below is a pic of a 2005 diff I recently replaced(2012 ZR1 trans with 2012 Z06 diff was the replacement)
The diff cracked near the bottom of the case into the aft cover area
edit your A4 list. its a 4l65 not a 4l60 in 05

What did you find inside the 4L65 to make it worth noting?

To the 09up diff question on base/27 spline cars, I'm not aware of any changes

differences worth noting. strongest A4 ever in C6 Quote from GM: durable 4l65-e delivers automatic performance . the available auto transmission in the C6 is the new Hydra-Matic 4l65-e 4 speed.an upgraded version of the C5's 4l60-e,the L65 is strengthened and revised to accommidate the LS2's 400 lb/ft of torque. To beef up the internals,a five pinion planetary gear set was added-replacing a 4 pinion gear set.the extra gear reduces friction and loads carried by all the gears.the washers between the gear sets are made from Teflon, allowing optimal operation at high speed. for protection from the high temperatures that are generated by high speed,a 4 plate oil cooler has been added.when the transmission fluid reaches 127 degrees celsius(260 F).the torque converter lock does not disengage, except briefly during shifts.this prevents fluid shear in the torque converter from adding heat to the transmission.the 4L65-e uses a highly advanced electronic controller that has been specifically calibrated for Performance Algorithm Shifting.this technology automatically selects the optimal gear for a given driving situation, making it a willing accomplice for performance driving and hard cornering.the 4l65-e transmission shifts at higher rpm, compared to the C5's 4l60-e, to take advantage of the LS2's higher hp and rev range.other than these items and a stronger revised case I didnt see much worth noting.

I am building a C6 diff with all new parts. European case that will accept the oil heat exchanger, 3:73 gears, hardened output shafts, HD pinion mount, heat exchanger and a Quaife carrier.

I hope it lives...........

I am replacing clutch after 93K miles, noticed right seal leaking on rear diff only. Replacing that and moving on. Any advise on the best trans and diff fluid to use in stock 05 base coupe manual setup?

So today I was out in the Vette, 05 Automatic. Under hard acceleration heard a loud clunk from the back of the car. Immediately let of the gas and continued to the traffic light. When the light changed. The engine revved but car didn't move. Put it into 1st gear and it drove normally after which I could shift through 2nd third and then back into drive. Next light again drive would not work. Third time stopping, drive worked again. Not sure what this is but I know it's not good.

Have had some odd shifting issues at the track, but never before on the street.

I have a 07 Z06 rear diff in my car and I have beat on it at the track like it was rented. I have had no issues at all with it other than it spinning only one tire once.

I might have missed the answer to this.... But what was the result? What did you find wrong?

I anticipation of breaking mine, I bought the biggest GForce axles. One of the forum members had trouble with theirs, but mine have worked fine. I also only have 540 at the wheels and no wheel hop.
