Default Optima Red Top Part Number

I need to replace the battery in my 08. She sat in storage for 3 months and it appears that it is going downhill fast.

I want to replace it with an Optima Red Top, but need to know which one is correct to fit in the battery tray and be able to tighten it down, since I do HPDE and autocross.

And yes, I did a search and did not find any part numbers.

There are 5 different Group sizes listed and I want to get it right the first time.

No Optima is going to fit right in! MUCH better off getting a Duralast
from Autozone. The Optima fit's poorly and has a poor record.
The Duralast can be replaced anywhere at an Autozone even on Sunday
if there an issue!

That's great - except the closest AutoZone to me is 54 miles away. And I work weird hours (Days one week, swings and mids, changing constantly), so even getting there is almost impossible.

Nor will they ship a Duralast battery. I can get free shipping from Summit with a no questions return policy.

I have never heard of issues with Optima batteries - more than a few people here on the Forum have them in everything from C3's to C6's without issues.

Called Summit Racing - the part number is 9020-164 and they guaranteed it is a direct fit with no issues.

Even with 2nd Day Air it was $192.95

I used the redtop and it most certainly did fit perfectly in my stock battery tray and also in the rear compartment when I did a battery relocation to help traction. It fits without the slightest movement so I mean perfectly.

What I later did was changed to a yellow top which also fit perfectly in the stock location with no mods. The red top didnt stand up to all the draw on it in my modded car. My seconday fuel system just proved to be too harsh a drain on it so the deep cycle dischanrge was the ticket.

Here is my battery installed after 2 years with a perfect fit:

I would call them and swap to a yellow top. Its a great battery.

Have a yellow top in the battery compartment of my 07Z. Purchased new in 2010, fits perfect, no issues. Model 3478DT. Also installed aftermarket cabling (larger guage)

KBoltz, the battery you ordered is a Group 35 and the only size we consider a direct-fit replacement for the 2008 Corvette (6.2 liter). victorf, the quality of our batteries has always been excellent and the batteries we are manufacturing today are the best we have ever made. What kind of vehicle were these five batteries (not including the original battery) in since 2003 and what were the circumstances surrounding these issues? Do you recall the voltage level of any of the batteries you replaced?

I have an Optima model 75/25 in my `08 coupe. Perfect fit. It's about 4 years old now and is great. No more corroded battery connections! Connected my battery tender last night and it was at full float after only 25 minutes.

With my 2003, the stock Delco leaked acid all over the computer that sits just below the battery behind the fender. It really corroded things. That is why I went with a Redtop

Jim,

thanks for the response. I received the battery from Summit yesterday and replaced the original AC Delco. Fit right in, took all of five minutes, and the factory battery hold down works perfectly.

All the minor electrical issues I was having (gauge pod buttons not working right, etc..) are all cured.

I took off the driver's side door actuator and cleaned all the contacts with rubbing alcohol and q-tips, total of 10 minutes work (removal, dis assembly, cleaning, reassembly and reattach. Now it works just fine as well. I ordered new ones (both sides) from Parts Taxi, but will keep them on the shelf for when they will need replacement.

Now to save up for an LS3 hot cam, new valve springs, ATI balancer and other go fast goodies.

I run my fan & electric water pump at the track between runs... with the engine "OFF" some days (on a good day) I might make 7-8 runs.... after a run the engine temp is app 190 ... I shut it off & run the WP/& fan for 6-8 min & my water temp is down to 150 deg...

I have been using an Optima Yellow Top (Type 34) for going on 3 years now... the only thing I do is put it on a battery tender once a month... & its been trouble free

victorf, I had a '97 SC2- nice little car! Do you recall the voltage of any of the batteries that you had issues with? I called both Battery Bill locations (didn't tell them who I was) and they both indicated the Optima warranty was identical to what we have on the mainland. Did someone there or somewhere else indicate it was shorter?

Hi Jim!

FWIW, I have had a yellow top in my Firehawk since 2005 and I put a red top in my Vette a couple years ago. I keep Battery Tender JR's on them when not driven and both are doing great.
