have a torn cv axle boot that is flinging grease everywhere. The axle is an after market, and the boot material is softer than the OEM. It stretches at high MPH, and hits the shock, causing the tear.
Chevrolet does service axle boots, but each one cost MORE than the axles I am running. Does anyone know where to get the GM style boots without the GM price?
Please I don't want to debate the type of axle I'm running etc. If you can't offer info related to the topic, please move along.
on an diff upgrade, my right side tore open and that nasty grease was slinging. my shop purchased the boot replacement from GM along with the band tightening install tool. pulled the axle out, separated the boot rubber hammer, maybe it was metal. then put the boot back together with the new grease and replaced the bands. still working fine
I can't help with the actual question but will share my experience.
I had problems with the stiff gm boots and the last time I replaced them with the softer silicone style. I have not had any leakage since and they were less expensive and quick and easy to install.
