Phasing a camshaft

Default Phasing a camshaft

Anyone ever heard a "phasing" a camshaft. Have been told to try this first before doing a cam swap. Also will a 2007-up LS7 work in my 2005 LS2 ??

If I'm not mistaken this is also known as degreeing in the Cam. This is when the machine shop or installer uses a degree wheel on the crank to make sure that the profile of the cam is in line with top dead center of the engine. It is a good practice but not always needed. If the installer has experience with that particular cam profile and your engine, then past experience tells him he has plenty of piston to valve . The crank shafts can be advanced or retarded to make up the difference if a multi slot crank gear is used. Retarding or advancing the cam will also allow the engine to produce a bigger low end or a larger top end charge.
Usually each slot is worth 3 degrees. Could be a bit different with today's LS engines. I'm going back 10 years when I had a Race Car. Ask your installer about it. He'll know .

Good enough explanation. You are also correct on todays engines, you can't advance or retard the cam in relation to the crank because it will set a code for cam/crank sync. All advance or retard in done when grinding the cam.
