How far from your RPM limit are you setting your shift lights?
I assume, for example, if your PCM is tuned for say 7,000 RPM you aren't setting the shift light at 7,000 given the time it takes the optic nerve to respond and to shift.. Thanks
What model are you talking about? On the manual 4LT GS there's supposedly a 'shift light', but only on the HUD. Probably useless, since it has to be in the same tone and intensity of the rest of the green, which would necessitate staring at the damn thing to see it . And it's definitely not programmable on my car. Heck, don't even know if it works, at what rpm, and if on both 'track' modes or just one. Don't even remember reading about that in the owner's manual. Another GS owner mentioned that to me recently.
I would start with a setting about 400 RPM away for 1st to second and experiment from there. As the gears progress and the time is longer in the gears you might find it a bit long. I don't know why no one has come out with a progressive shift light as you most likely only needs a 100 - 200 rpm warning in the top gears.
