I was looking at the diffrent skip shift options for my c6 and I came acrossed on that is just a fuse ur replace in the fuse box. I was wondering if anyone has used this option and what they thought of it and what the best option out there is? Do any of them stop the light from coming up on the dash?
There are a couple of choices with the fuse disable:
1. Someone sells a pre-modified fuse. You will have to do a search
for it.
2. You modify a regular fuse by cutting in open and cutting the
fusible link. You then solder a 2k resistor across the fuse so the
ECM doesn't throw an error code.
3. Buy a 10A smart-fuse (Crutchfield sells them). These fuses have
2 LEDs in them so that they glow when they are blown. Then take
the fuse and blow it by connecting it across a battery charger or a
spare car battery. Then check it by hooking it up to the battery to
make sure the LED glows. Be sure to connect it in both directions to
verify that one LED glows in each direction.
I used method 3 and it worked great. The LEDs and current limiting
resistors provide enough resistance that the ECM thinks the transmission
solenoid is still connected.
I used the $14 fuse and it works fine. The 1-4 shift light seldom comes on. You have to be driving pretty gently to have a forced 1-4 shift so for many of us, it may never have been a problem in the first place.
