I am looking for some tires for the drag track. The stock run flats kept me to a 12.7@114 with a 2.15 sixty foot. In the stock 285/35/19 there are BridgeStone Potenza RE-11. Granted, they are a tire designed more for autocros but I ran the RE-01R's years ago on my GTO and they were just about as good as the Nitto DR's that I was running. I also was looking at the Hoosier A6 tires in 295/35/19 but again they are an autocross tire but they look to have a sticky compound and even with the hard side walls HAVE to be better than what the run flats.
What are my other options?
I wouldnt mind a cheap set of drag wheels in 15" that I can throw some sidewall tires on just for racing.
Money isnt a huge deal but I want a cheap set up as they will only get used a few times a year.
My only other "wants" are a cat back (yes I know its not for power), line lock, two step and perhaps a short throw shifter. At the track I made 8 passes and never missed a shift so that would be last on my list of modifications.
The other items I am looking to add is a 4.10 rear gear set.
The tires I mentioned, will they do "ok" in holding the power?
They have to be better than stock but honestly I cant find any decent drag radials in the stock tire size.
Also, any idea if I should change the rin/pinion myself or have a shop do it or just buy an entire new rear? I have torn them apart and assisted with putting them together but have never done it completely by myself.
from the brief time the wife has had in her vette this year, the RE11's have been a major improvement over the SuperCar EMT's
i'd love to try a set of them on my car too
they have a nice low tread wear rating and you can feel how much more "tacky" they are just rolling them in the garage compared to the original tires
i think one of the newer Pierellis had just a tad lower rating, but i'll admit i didn't investigate them that much
Mickey Thompson ET Streets come in 305/35/19. Now, people will say that is way too bit but ites only .8 inches wider and .6 inches taller.
And that .8 inches is only .4 inch per side of the rim. I dont see why it wouldnt be an issue. A guy I race with had the on his T/A and they were better than the NT05Rs that he tried.
