I just started having problems with my FOB. The FOB will sometimes work and then when I shut it off it says "No FOB detected Off or Run?" or something like that.
My car battery is the original battery from '08 (when I purchased the car new). The FOB batteries are the original also,
Should I try the FOB batteries first? Can I change them myself?
What battery do I need for the FOB?
Thanks,
Peter
Change your FOB batteries CR2032, you can take apart the FOB easily with a butter knife when you pull the key out of it
I just changed both FOB batteries, and it still somewhat did the same thing. Its kwirky, it starts sometimes and sometimes it doesnt. I will try the battery next (since it is 4 years old now). If that doesnt work I will look into the slot in the glove box.
Ok I changed the fob batteries and its still doing the same thing! I didnt buy a new car battery itself but I used a tester and it says it has 12 volts (I have a good tester). I even put a battery charger and set it to boost and it still did the same thing, so I might be able to rule out the car battery. Its like the FOB works when it wants to, and its kwirky. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Its a pain in the a$$ if you ask me. I would have been happy with a friggin key!
I read on an internet page that shows you how to program a fob that installing an aftermarket radio can make this happen, but I installed the aftermarket unit over 3 years ago, that certainly cannot be the case, or maybe it can?????
I even put the fob in that slot and it still says "no fob detected"!
I even tried putting the fob in different ways to assure I put it in correctly. Should I goto the dealer for now?
Anyway I think I still have the 5yr/100k mile warranty on it so if it is the fob slot I will have the dealer look at it. Any more advice or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Try parking the car in a different location from normal. The fobs can be overridden with RFI from various sources including cell phones.

I just realized something, I recently installed IR security cameras around the perimeter of my house... One of the cameras are mounted in my car port to watch the car. Maybe the infared beam from the camera is interferring with the FOB.
Come to think of it, this problem started just after I installed that camera.. sum b*tch!

Thanks for pointing that out dude!
If the carport is the only place you have the problem, then that's the cause. You could put a switch in the line to turn off that camera when you leave home. i.e. car not there

Yes I think that is the culprit, I recently positioned the camera to point more directly towards the car. When the night vision comes on you can see on the screen the white light right on top of the car. I re-pointed the camera not to point directly at the car, and it seems fine now.
I cant believe a simple thing like that would throw it out of whack! The important thing is that it wasnt something with the car itself such as the glove box slot. I called the dealer and since my car is an 08 there is no longer a warranty on electrical so i'd be stuck paying for the repairs.
Thanks for your advice and help. If you didnt post I wouldnt have thought it was the camera so quickly
