I'm just hoping someone, anyone, can tell me what is going on. 70K miles on the car, based 2009 Vert, with Z51 sways and Bilstein Sports added. Been very happy with that set up. I had the car lowered on the factory bolts, maybe an inch. The occasional scrape on the spoilers, but fine by me.
Several months ago, I had an A&A kit installed. Now the nose was almost literally on the ground. When I tried to raise it back up, the bolts were frozen. Took it to a local shop, and they said they would have to install a new front spring, as they couldn't move them either. They said they had a spare spring from some earlier replacement work, and installed it.
I quickly decided the nose was still too low. Drove the bolts almost all the way to the ends, nothing. I've only got about four threads left, and the center spoiler is about one inch off the ground. Put it in reverse, and that spoiler drags. Half-pressure the brakes for a quicker but not extreme stop, spoiler drags. And hitting everything.
I looked at the spring, it looks fine, no obvious splits or cracks or damage.
Is it the spring?? I suppose I could acquire some ZO6 take-offs with low miles, and replace to see if it helps. But as I said, I'm happy with the set up I have, if I can get the suspension to get back up to a bit more height. And I hate to waste money on springs if the issue is elsewhere.
Yeah, the Dallas Performance gang looked at it as well, and noted they are turned the correct direction. They also could not come up with a reason why it was sitting so low.
For future reference, I've heard of people freeing up frozen spring bolts with penetrating oil and a lot (days) of patience.
If that doesn't work, some have carefully applied heat to the bolt. The trick is to apply the heat without melting the spring around the nut, or the rubber tip, or setting the car on fire.
