car being used 06 z51 c6 m6... So I been thinking of some quick easy mods... since I have the car in the air torn apart for the TT install. I was at auto zone I always seem to walk around the entire store scoping for something that I might need.. Seen a transmission cooler.. I'll be running open down pipes with 2 7/8 in turn down's so I have all this room back there for anything I want.. well I got to thinking about a dyi diff cooler. The kit will draw fluid from oil drain plug which will lead into a inline oil filter > pump> trans cooler> and back into the diff through the fill plug..Idea of this is something that don't require to drill and/or change diff cover out. Because that would void my 3.90 diff warranty.. The pump and cooler will be bracketed where the axle back used to be.. I found a company that makes custom an fittings so I can have them make one that'll fit into the plugs.. Hoping to keep the kit below 200$ What do yall think?
I run a diff temp gauge on my car; I notice that the temp gets up to 220+ on the highway, but the only time it gets near 280-300 is when I'm on the road course. It is what shuts me down on the road course after 20-30 minutes as my oil cooler and trans cooler do a good job.
Trans stays around 180-200 which makes sense as it has a cooler in the radiator.
Personally, there isn't much room for a fitting by the leaf spring, plus, if something hung below the leaf, it would be prone to breaking off, leaking the fluid out with obvious results.
While I think it's a good idea if you plan to go on the road course, on the street, after 6 years of having a car with a gauge, I can tell you that you don't need the cooler.
