My manual transmission went out last month. Rebuilt unit finally got here and I need a flatbed ride to the shop next week for the swap. I was wondering what are the proper options for securing the car to the flatbed. Want to keep an eye on things so I can stop a bad situation if damage is about to occur.
I use the biggest ratchet tie downs from walmart. Set of 4 for 25$ they should be orange. Put the car in reverse and e-brake on. Towed my car over 20 times and always do a brake check test... Id rather buy a bumper than a car lol.
You have small slots behind the front wheels, and infront of the back wheels on the car. (look under rocker panel) Those are the standard transport slots. Use those, and find a strap kit that is capable of holding your vehicle weight, and you will be good. I prefer to do a "x" tie down, by that I mean the place the hook goes in to on the right of the car (the transport slot) should hook to the left side of the flat bed. And dont be scared to tighten them down, ratched it TIGHT so it does not move. E-brake and in gear does not hurt Hope this helps.
Where and how do you attach the straps? Lower control arms? Center structures between the wheels? Holes under the doors where lifting pucks go? Other? Soft loop? Hook directly to something?

Thanks!
Holes under the doors where jacking pucks go...
As for the T hooks, those are ideal, however regular hooks will work provided tension is on them.
all the flatbed tow trucks i've called used the straps through the wheels. front wheels being pulled forward, rear wheels being pulled rearward, never had any problems.
actually, pulling the car up can push on the underside of the front bumper (2005), so it's flexed without cracking yet.
good tow trucks use wooden boards to help get the chin up higher.
i bet a GS or Z06 will definitely need help since front chin is long/clearance is low. definitely use some boards to help the chin along in that case.

I just had my car on a flatbed as my tranmission went out last weekend. I was very impressed with the way the driver strapped the car. Nothing actually touched the car itself, only the tires. He did all 4 wheels something like this picture. (I found the pic online for demo purposes. its not my actual car.)
