Default Broken Stereo

I searched quite a bit and am surprised I didn't find this exact thread already, but if anyone knows of one, I'd appreciate a link.

Got back from vacation two weeks ago, and drove my C6 to work (2005, had since new, 19k miles, no bose/nav). The volume **** was erratic. Sometimes up would go down, but with enough spins I could get it to go where I want. This has gotten progressively worse.

I know it is pretty common with old stereos in general but was hoping there was already a HOW-TO to fix the volume control. Haven't found it yet.

Today however, I decided to swap CD's. It ejected just fine, but it won't accept a new disc. I can push it all the way to the point that I can just barely keep a grip on the disc and the stereo never even tries to grab it.

Since it did eject just fine, I think mechanically it is ok, but the sensor/switch that detects the insertion of the disc is gone. Has anyone tried fixing this yet?

I've been debating getting an aftermarket stereo since I first bought the car over 7 years ago, but I've always thought they looked out of place in an expensive car. I guess after 7 years, it is no longer an expensive car.

On the way home today, it accepted the CD, but I am sure it is only a matter of time before it goes out again. Is it time for the C7?

I too have a 2005, bought new. One of the first mods I did. Stereo upgrade. Not sure what you mean about it looking "out of place". My DVD/NAV system setup looks way better than the stock unit. But to each his own I guess.
