Tuning on an existing tune?

I've just picked up my car and it already has mods and a tune. I'm wanting to have a local tuner involved for a trans tune.
My question is with an existing tune and no tuner does the car have to have an entirely new tune done? Does it have to be reverted to stock then tuned?
The tune for the engine seems great but I think the trans is off a bit and could use some looking at.
I'm glad to get back into the swing of things, it's been 18 months since I sold my last one and I couldn't be happier.

The tuner can modify the current tune.

Unless the tune is locked. Some tuners are known to do that...

True, and its BS if you ask me. I worked on a tuner locked PCM and the original tuner "forgot" he had it locked. Couldn't even read the tune until it was unlocked.

I'll have to ask the previous owner who tuned it. It was somewhere in NJ.
