Just find a straight line and stay in the gas and find out a real number. Then you won't have to bench race and will have an actual number to go by. IMO even if I had a car that could do 220mph and I only went 150mph its only a 150mph car. The more confident I feel the faster my car gets. Haven't topped it out yet.
I think most people are comfortable tapping the 150 mph mark, and as well, today's Corvette is easily capable of doing just that while making the driver feel comfortable behind the wheel.... 175 is pushing it, and its easy to "get there".....But I will tell you from Autobahn 5 experience.....Anything over 190 is scary as hell and makes that 175 mph mark feel like a 150 mph "comfort zone."
Find yourself a very long stretch of desert road....Like I-10 through between Scottsdale and Tucson at 2 am..... Better yet, would be outside Tucson where LEOs are on shift change. : )
Probably closer to 180. The LS2-engined C6 with manual tranny did 186 before they taped over the fog lights and folded in the mirrors. Then it did 190.
I have just bought a 2012 coupe with the 3LT trim and automatic. does anyone know the top speed of this car? I'm guessing about 175 or so?
GM stated in 2008 the corvette coupe LS3 with Z51, NPP, manual in 5th gear (.71) top end was 190 mph at 6000 rpm. Sixth gear hit 165 mph (.57 gearing)at 4200 rpm. Fourth gear (1:1) hit 147 mph at 6500 rpm.

That's not a good place or time to let it loose. There are far safer places that are legal. That said, upwards of 180 is possible, but you better prepare properly and know your personal limits.
I have a 2006 LS 2 coupe. Reviewing the manual, in detail, as I did, there is a page which defines the speed available in each gear. Top speed in 6th gear is 186 mph for the base car.
I just reviewed the DVD which came with the car. And, they made the same claim, 186 mph.
I just got back from Seattle and I decided to see what it felt like going 150 mph. I could only top out at 138 on an all flat interstate road in which I had plenty of open road ahead of me with great views of the open area left and right. To say the least, I was disappointed. What I'm hoping is, I had the car in sport mode and I only had it in fourth gear.
I currently live in the Chicago area and we don't have enough open road for me to safely top out the car, so, I'm hoping someone can offer me some advice as to why I couldn't go faster than 138, of course, at that speed, you don't want to take your eyes off the road for too long. Actually, I'm wondering if my car is limited for some reason or another, because, all indications show I should be able to hit near 186, (which I do not have the talent to do so).
Well, This probably wont answer your question since my car has a different engine and tranny than yours, but I have got my car up to 184. I could have gone more but was approaching a bend in the road and didn't want to push it any further. I was at about 5.8k in 5th gear. 170mph came right around 5k rpm. I want to break 190, just need the right time and place.

6th gear is not the top speed gear. About 145mph is the best you will do. 172mph was the fastest I got my LS2 in 5th gear. It still had more in it but ran out of room.

I think that's the right answer MOA. I believe you need to be in 5th to reach top speed with the A6 transmission because of the relatively high gearing (the same high gearing that gets you 30+ mpg on the highway). However, I wouldn't recommend trying it until you get new rear tires.
I am just amazed! Here is a thread where posters are discussing top speed. Now I think it's just great that people are celebrating what the Corvette was created to do best.
But just a short year ago such a discussion was verboten. If you admitted doing anything more than a little spirited driving, there were repercussions. One had to be very circumspect.
Also poster Racer was notorious for egging posters to admit details, so they would be by the moderators.
I'll admit to not visiting lately. Has the atmosphere here changed?

Go out on 88 west of 47 20 miles with no exits and flat
Call Straigtline performance out of New Lenox that will get you hooked up

That's not safe for you or your driving record. I'd NEVER attempt a top-speed run at night; just not smart IMO. And neither on a major highway. Plenty of desolated secondary highways in the desert southwest in perfect shape for that, if you're inclined to do that.

As it was mentioned, you'll NEVER reach top speed in 6th gear on a stock engine; not even close. And neither in 4th gear. You need 5th. Try it next time and you should be close (at least indicated ), depending on your altitude. Just do it safely man .
