i am wanting to become more educated on cams....what exactly are the differances between a regular cam and a blower cam? will you still gain a good bit with a blower cam (will do fi in the future), or is it better to wait and do all at once? would like to do it in stages, but if the blower based cam wont really yield any gains w/o the blower...then i may just look into a good head/cam set up?
Even a super mild blower cam (like the LS9 cam) will yield a 20 to 30 hp improvement n/a. Mine's a little bigger than that, 219/231 115lsa, but small enough to still have excellent manners. I have "0" tolerance for any bucking and surging. I've seen similar cams in n/a M6 LS3's make 450ish rwhp with all the bolt ons.
To my way of thinking, a blower cam ought to augment the set up, not dominate it. Plus, my choice in blowers (Maggie TVS) doesn't really make significantly more power with a bigger cam. Not saying anyone's "mega wampum" big blower cam isn't the bees' knees....just not my cup of tea. What I absolutely love about f/i is that you can have excellent manners and fuel eco along with supercar power......reliably
