My corvette is an 06 with 42k miles and I just got her. She is making a weird chirp noise that is getting to me. SHe drives as strong as ever but the noise doesn't seem to go away. Anyone have any ideas?
That is definitely a failed "crankshaft pulley" (harmonic balancer). The balancer has a center hub pressed to the front of crankshaft and then a flexible rubber coupling between it and the outer hub that drives the main serpentine belt. The rubber flexible coupling has a history of failing causing the outer hub to "wobble" and the wobble causes the belt to "chirp".
I had the exact same thing happen to my 05 after 19,000 miles. Mine was replaced under warranty but if I had to pay for it the price was around $1000 at a dealer.
Yea it does look like its from the bottom of the engine and I do see it wobbling a bit. Ima call Horsepower Sales in pompano first thing on Monday see what I should expect. I do have a MPP waranty that i really hope will cover or at least help the expense of the fix. It is my daily driver so in the meantime I'm driving it as babied as possible.. thanks for the quick response.
Just had my second one installed under warranty. That makes three h/b on a vehicle with 24k on it. The last one doesn't wobble at all. The other ones had a slight wobble to start with. If it happens again I will go with ATI h/b and never have the problem again. I would have done it this time but the h/b was free along with the install. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I had a similar noise a few weeks ago. Removed the long tip from a mechanics stethoscope and used the open ends to find the noise coming from the alternator pulley. It's weird because it hasn't made the noise again since.
