My airbag warning light on my 2006 is illuminated. I searched the forum and discovered this to be common. They said that the electric plug under the drivers seat could be the problem. There are two, which plug is the culprit? I did move the seat, both the exit setting and then adjusted later as I drove. The temperature was in the low to mid thirties.
It could also be the wiring to the seat belt tensioner. Factory routing is not great and it can get caught on the seat track with bad results (broken wires). Been there..........twice.......on my 2005.
Well I looked under the seat, there are two plugs. The plugs look ok, I did move the two plug ends of the smaller plug without disconnecting the wires, hopefully cleaning wire contacts. Where else should I look? Is the problem under the seat bottom where the motor and seat control buttons are located? Everything seems to be out of harms way. Where are the seat tensioner wires located? Nothing is simple.
Thanks, I have not found this yellow connector. "Yellow" should be able to see it? I have two connectors in the front, gray/black, the large one has a purplish locking device. Didn't know what I am looking at. Tonight I'll raise the seat with the seat adjustment motor and see what is aft towards the motor. It is probably a connection, the system did check OK once after the first indication of a problem. Oh, my OnStar report was taken during this intermittent problem and all systems tested OK on the report?????
The yellow connector is clipped underneath the rear of the seats. Move your seats are far forward as possible and flip the back forward and you will see it. You can easily pull the connector off and then just push the clip back on the bar that holds it against the seat frame once you have tightly tied wrapped it.
I found it, and applied the wire tie as suggested. Now I have to wait a few days to test, darn snow storm messed up the roads. Should be fine in a few days. I will keep everyone posted.
We got lucky, that snow/rain storm washed the salt, if any, that was deposited on the roads. To my amazement the roads were clean and dry this morning when I drove to work. I will probably test the system tonight.
Well, the system was tested and the result is-------------drum roll--------------the light is out!!! I drove up and down the street and the light remained out. Now will the system continue to operate as designed? Time will tell.
Good news. The picture in post #6 is my C6. The dealer worked on it numerous times over a two year period. At one point they replaced the pre-tensioner and that cured the problem for a few months. I zip tied the yellow connectors several years ago and the check air bag light has never returned. I'm sure the pre-tensioner replacement just made a better connection at the yellow connector that ultimately loosened again.
The air bag system is working as advertised. Three hours of driving and two engine starts with no air bad issues. My new battery isn't up to the task, still marginally charged, hasn't reached a full charge yet.
