Default Oil Cooler question

I have an 05 Z51 M6 with the internal oil cooler. I am wondering if the oil cooler is needed and how much of a difference it would make on a daily driven street car. Reason I am asking is that I have to swap my radiator and have access to a non-EOC radiator. I would have to eliminate the internal oil cooler and maybe swap to an external oil cooler in the future. Thanks for the info.

For street driving, you won't see a significant difference. Remember that non Z-51 cars don't have one... On the track will be a whole different story!

Thanks. Thats what I thought. Do you happen to know how to plug the line holes on the oil pan after removing the lines?

The radiator setup is nice, it cools the oil when it gets hot; and warms the oil when it's cold.

I would try hard to retain it.

Default Do we need oil coolers?

You should regard an oil cooler on a street driven vehicle as insurance. It is there for a worse case scenario e.g. It is high ambient temperature, you are driving up a steep incline, you are in a low gear and using a lot of rpm. The oil is getting very hot and losing viscosity and therefore film strength eventually the film strength is not enough to avoid bearings making metal to metal contact. You are then in deep trouble.
If you go the external cooler route try www.batinc.net,
