Harley I was just reading a writeup on this very thing about removing the c6 lens, etc. Cant find the link now. GM uses a more robust sealant on these lens than most manufacturers from what this company was saying. Meaning longer heating time to soften the adhesive and remove. Just be careful. I came across the link researching this very thing on youtube so you should be able to research there and find everything you need. I hope you return to this thread and keep us all updated on the how-tos since you will be the first one ive read that actually tackled this PITA procedure yourself.
After lifting the car and removing the tires and setting it on jack stands, the removal of the headlights took about an hour and a half.
I baked the lights at about 250 degrees in the house oven and began Prying off the lens, Not such a hard job either!
Sadly I did break 2 tabs off the housing trying to get the excess old glue out of the channel.
Lesson learned. Second one came out perfectly.
Taking your time is the key.
I found the brand new lens on Ebay shipped for $260.00 for the pair,
Now I am looking for the right sealant, I'm thinking of (KOITO BUTYL Rubber sealer).
Just got the lens today and have to order the sealer so I am a few days out from completing the job. I may replace the gaskets too and should be able to get them for about 90.00. Total job if things go right will be under $400.00. I will keep up with updates
I read most of the info from your link on this subject and found it to be very good!
Guess I'll use the PL discribed by RL sebring. It seems to work well for him and I am not interested in experimenting on $260.00 len's.
Well not good for me,
I had found a new pair of lens on ebay for a real nice price. The guy sold his car before he had them installed.
I received the lens and upon inspection found them scuffed from improper shipping. Not my sellers fault but the original seller. My seller didn't even unpackage them fully, he just did a quick check and offered them up for sale.
Here I have the lights all stripped down ready for lens to install and no lens.
Me seller did me good and is taking back the lens for a full refund but I'm out return shipping. Small price to pay I guess.
Anyway, I've decided to quit where I'm at and not spend the money. Guess I'll just have to keep them or sell them for parts. Monteray red are hard to find I guess.
Oh well it was fun while it lasted
Not sure if I want to spend over 400.00$ to have a spare set of lights around the house.
Before I was around 350 including headlight gaskets. That I could handle
