05 ls2 with custom headers , x pipe and high flow cats ! i wanna take the cats off will i run into any issues as far as car not running properly i do not see any o2 sensors after the cats but there is one in each collector before the cat any input is appreciated
If you are already running hiflow cats and don't have any CEL's then you already have a computer mod (tune) done. Removing the cats might require a further tune.
You will definitely fail a visual inspection with headers and no cats.
I flip flop on this choice every week. One day I'll pull them and figure it out.
It should run fine without cats. It will be louder, probably have a little raspier sound, smell a little more fuel but honestly high flows are pretty open anyways. On my old Mustang I pulled the cats and swapped in a set of resonators. Had a little deeper sound but was still decently loud comapred to having cats.
I just installed some B&B long tubes on my LS3 last week. I kept the factory x pipe (2008 - no cats in the x pipe) and the headers attached perfectly to the x pipe. The B&B headers had two O2 bung holes on each collector pipe. The upper hole I connected my upper O2 sensors. the lower hole (were only talking about 1/2 inch away) I installed the Big Daddy's Cell fix piece and then connected the lower O2 sensors into it.
No codes, and no smell either. Very happy with the outcome. Not sure if I will ever bother to get a tune.

That Big Daddy's Cell Fix is a true work of art. Never seen such a thing. Nice!
People do some crazy things for crazy reasons though.
Depending on the setup it may sound better or worse. The smell of fuel shouldn't be too bad if the tune is decent. I ran without cats on my Mustang for a while and it sounded good with mufflers and the stock exhaust manifolds. After I added headers I pulled the mufflers and ran resonators.
I wouldn't of traded that sound for anything else... now with the Vette I'm not sure how good it will sound but you can always change it back so why not?
