Default Ported Intake

I have a 2005 (A4) .. it has Kooks Headers, Vararam CAI, and a Tune..

So far I have run a best of 11.74 @ 117 mph.. I would like to see a little better ET & was looking at a FAST intake manifold...

BUT they are app $1000 ... too much for me to spend at this time... The shop that does my work suggested I port my stock intake on my LS2 & would see a good improvement, & it would cost a LOT less than a FAST intake..

Anyone have any idea of what kind of improvement I'd see in my 1/4 mile ET if I just have the stock intake ported... (the price is right) I have plans for a cam in the near future...

Also the shop is a TOP Corvette tuner...

10 rwhp. fine for a dyno sheet but not noticed at the track.

My fast was .2 and 3 mph consistently. It's worth it. Stay tuned for a used one, they come up.

Thanks Joe...As you well know I really don't care what the dyno shows, all I care about is the TIME SLIP If I can run the # with 350 HP I'm a happy camper...To ME, I use the dyno sheets for wallpaper in the garage..

Its the time slips that I pay attention to....

I'll wait and get it done when I have enough $$ for a nice (NOT KILLER) street friendly cam.. Then I'll have the cam (new springs also) and see about porting my stock intake...

OR while its apart now and E Town is closed until March, I'll hit the "Home Equity" for some $$ and do a cam... as I said above (STREET FRIENDLY) I already have run 11.7x .. & I'm looking to be able to run 11.50 in the summer, and also ..I will be DEEP STAGED as I'll be running an 11.50 Index class..off a .5 tenthes Pro tree..

When I turned up boost a few years ago my FAST didn't have burst panels so it was removed. Wish I would have replaced it with a newer version.

i liked the addition of the ported intake on my wifes 05
i went with that because at the time i was hell bent on going E-force, but not not sure which direction we will go
i also have the ported intake too
both from Peak
i'd go with the FAST if you have any future plans/desires

i may go FAST 102 if we go centri

hopefully this year we can get back to track to see what numbers the car run with the better tune

I got a call today, that my car was done, the Converter, trans, & ported intake... Now I have to just wait until there is a track rental,..
Gotta see if I pick up much on my previous best of 11.74 @ 117 mph
They said it still has to go on the dyno, & that will be done today.. I'm sure I won't feel much difference on the street & it was spinning the tires before even from a roll... I'm going to have to wait for a track day....

I don't see you on the 1/4mile fast list.....why don't you submit your slip. Nice pass

I can't find my time slip to verify the run, but "Marc" (LS1LT1) saw it I think, and the rules say you must submit a time slip...

But there are at least 5 or 6 Corvette Challenge racers who witnessed my runs..

Honestly I don't care if I'm on the list or not.. I'm MORE interested in having a CONSISTENT CAR even if its .10 slower.. because I bracket race and running the # you put on your window means the difference of winning & losing...

Cartek knows how I feel about my ET's and like I said above I'd rather run a bunch of 11.74 - 11.76 than ONE 11.69 and the next 11.78

I think you get my point.. There are many guys here on the forum who are running only for a new "BEST" ET and thats fine with me. but I run in the $$ races and need "CONSISTENCY" I'm willing to give up .10 to get it....

jpee your car is set up well for what you are doing. The faster you try to go, (1) the more the chance you'll spin on a less than stellar track and thus lose and (2) the quicker you go the more chance you'll break something.

It seems you can race the C5-6 chassis in the mid-high 11's basically forever and they are reliable.

When you get into the 10's you start breaking things.

I got the call this afternoon, my car is ready, & it will be going on the dyno for a final tune... I'm going to pick it up tomorrow (Thurs) morning..

Now I have to sit tight until I can get it to a track.. It should run (my guess) mid 11's & I'll be a happy camper...I don't believe in SOP (seat of the pants) on how much better or worse a car is running, I only believe a TIME SLIP!!

You have no idea how many times I've see a person get only a "cat back" exhaust basically a muffler, & they swear it is a whole lot faster as they can "FEEL IT" I say BS and sure enough after taking that car to the track it ran almost the exact same #'s as before the"cat back" system was installed...

Now with my car it already had the converter, but it also had the stock intake, Julio did the porting job on the intake manifold, & I am sure it will show an improvement in the 1/4 mile BUT I'm not going to make any "claims" I'll let the timing clocks do the talking!!!

Nice, I only wish you had gone with a ported throttle body as well for that extra 5+ horsepower, but this will definitely wake it up.

For the cost of a FAST intake you can pick up an LS3 top end and that will get you 40 rwhp. I dropped 6/10th with the top swap.

Yeah?
Fully assembled heads, gaskets and LS3/L92 intake manifold complete for under $800.00?
Good deal.

That's right about what I was at. I did have to add $100 to get the heads milled though. $450 for a complete set of 821 heads and $350 for intake, rails and injectors.

Gaskets are about $50 or so and the labor on heads is SUBSTANTIALLY more than an intake, which will matter if you don't do the work yourself.

But heads will make a bigger difference than just a FAST, particularly if you have a big cam.

If you have a stock cam I would not buy a FAST or a ported intake as they are not your limiting factor with the stock cam. Gains on stock cam are pretty minimal.

The best order of mods when staying N/A are, as per my experience and thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...ast-heads.html

converter or gears
headers
cam
intake
heads
