Default Flexplate questions..

I searched but don't find much info on this topic. Are you high HP guys running the stock flexplate and is there any good reason to upgrade it if its out anyways.
Thanks

Other than an SFI approved flexplate being required by the NHRA at ETs quicker than 9.99 it is also a good idea for personal safety and reliability of your car.

In high power applications the multi-piece design of the stock flexplate and the small amount of welding attaching the ring gear to the flexplate become a big safety concern. We have had customers lose a small piece of the starter ring gear at high RPM and send that piece through the transmission tunnel, up through the bell housing, cracking this FAST intake manifold and his windshield. He is just lucky that it went up instead of to the left and through his legs/feet. At 6000+rpm a piece of the ring gear will have the same velocity as a bullet fired from a high powered hand gun.

For $275.00 it isn't worth taking the risk.
