Default Main caps stuck?

Dropped the oil pan, engine in the car, and want to take a look at the main bearings. I'm trying to take off the center main cap, but it's not as easy as I had hoped. Took out all 6 bolts, of course. It wiggles a little front to back if I force it, but won't come out.

Is there a trick to getting it out? I tried taking off one of the side bolts on the cap next to it hoping it would releave some squeezing pressure, but didn't help much. Will it be easier once I take all the bolts out of all the caps?

Also, it seems there's no way to take out the rear main cap without taking the rear main seal housing off, which means a clutch job on top of all this work... Is that correct?

I haven't torn down a LSx but with some other engines that I have worked on the main caps sometimes need a little tap with hammer to come off.

I tapped a lot. It's wiggling forward and back as much as the thrust bearing will allow, but I can't figure out how to pry to force it out. Not much room down there.

Followup:

The correct tool for this is a slide hammer.

Since I didn't have one, I grabbed on the cap with a claw of a pulley puller, and tapped down on that.

Some came out easier than others.

You should also know, that there's no way to pull off the #1 and #5 bearing caps without pulling the engine

So how do they look? And why did you feel the need to see?
