Low milage no, over 20K miles, yes.

That being said, I put a cam in at 10K and replaced the chain.

Just my opinion.

I have to ask why even consider reusing something that critical? Not like it's expensive or anything. FWIW, I would not reuse it.

It is foolish not to replace the chain any time you have the front cover off.

well, i actually have a brand new LS2 chain that i bought and never used.
i guess my question is.... it is new and a direct replacement from what i got. should i throw a hundo at a C5R chain? or just use the new LS2?

also i would like opinions on upgrading to a high volume oil pump

Since you going through all the effort, I would change the chain. It's relatively low cost extra and zero additional work. I'd also consider the C5R chain for added reliability.

Yes, especially with regard to the C5R chain.

Do a search on broken timing chains.

The C5R at least gives some security.

Absolutely!!! I lost my motor last March due to a broken timing chain with an ASP pulley (best guess with input from Jason Katech). And that was with a C5R timing chain. Run a search if one of my treads back in the March or April 2012 timeframe for details.

If you ever have to replace a damper I would recommend ATI.

a plus to using the old one, again somewhat low mileage is its probably at it's stretched length now

but... sometimes for the piece of mind it's just worth replacing while you're in there

kindda like on some cars when you do timing belts, might as well do a water pump
