Default Battery Voltage

Just took the car out for a drive since it was nice today. I have had it hooked up to a charger while in the garage. Jumped in and started immediately. Driving around I scrolled through the DIC and noticed my battery voltage was only 13.9 and fluctuated between 14.2 and 13.9. Not used to seeing any battery voltage fluctuation in my Z06 or in any car for that matter. Does this sound normal?

Got home and plugged it back into the charger and it did not show it as fully charged after a 30 minute cruise. Weird right?

Maybe your charger is suspect ...

I think those are perfectly normal numbers you're seeing while driving - the battery will be charged as needed, and sometimes you'll see a lower voltage, and sometimes a slightly higher voltage.

I always plug in my charger/maintainer when I come back from a drive, and the charger always initially shows that it's charging the battery - even though you might think that it should be fully charged from a drive.

So......I think what you're seeing is normal.

Thanks Bob, appreciate the input. Figured I was putting an alternator on a car with 150 miles.

My voltage has fluctuated in that same range since I've had the car.

Just for your peace of mind - if the alternator fails , you will see battery voltage at 12v or less on your dash gage.

I always plug my Battery Tender+ in whenever I finish driving the car and it always starts on the charge (red light) cycle regardless of how long it has been driven. Perfectly normal. Also, the voltages you see are normal when driving.
