Default Need help now

Having an issue with my 05 vette manual 6, Z51 package. The car will be driving fine then without warning, it will just shut off while driving. This was the first time. Second time engine started running very rough and began to surge before shutting down each time for several minutes the engine would turn over but not start. If it started then it would only run for a few minutes before shutting off completely. I noted that the CEL would come on and so would the service the traction system indicator. Both times after setting for an half hour the car would be fine. Both times to the car to a shop and no codes after the fact.

After reading the forum. Problem sound like a Mass air sensor issue. Got a new 1 from Chevy two days ago. That same night same issue only this time no surging or rough engine.... Just shut off on the fwy while traveling 60 mph. Waited 50 minutes and drove it home. That night I took the k&n set up off and went back to stock with new filters. To it Pep Boys on Sat and no codes again. Well today I'm cruising along about 40 and the engine just cuts off..... Now I just to angry to think straight and any help is greatly needed...

It could be many things but have you checked the battery with a load test? That is always the first thing to test on the C6. Reading the DIC voltage or a volt meter will not do it. A load test is the only way. Next I would check the alternator.

It could also be an issue with electrical gounding, but like Les said, start with the battery.

I have several thousand dollars worth of battery testing equipment if you want to come to my house and have it tested.

Also may want to check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tight. Remove the cables and clean the clamps and the terminals and then reattach and torque.Remove positive cable first, and when rattaching do positive last. This will also reset the computer. You will have to reindex your windows after you are done.

Crank position sensor going bad. If the computer doesnt know where the crank is it doesnt know when to tell what cylinder to fire.

Bear in mind that replacing the sensor means having to do the "CKP System Variation Learn" procedure which requires a Tech2 scan tool. You can change the sensor out easily enough but you might have a problem getting the car it to the Tech2 afterwards.

I have never replaced one but... i think if your doing a CAM sensor yes, relearn is required. But CRANK sensor, no relearn is required.

others can voice their experience, i am relating what others have said. here is #6 on relearn.. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...r-relearn.html

The issue I having now is where is that darn Crankshaft position sensor on this car. The threads and advise have been very helpful. I replace the Cam sensor earlier today. The cam sensor is located on the front of the engine just beneath the water pump. I know Chevy did some strange things in 05 with the vettte but where is this damn thing. It is not where the dealer told me today and not where some members have suggested. Has anyone removed a Crankshaft position sensor from a 05 Vett M6 Z51 that knows it's exact position. Getting ready to drop the starter to see if it is there.......after that I guess the motor comes out.....

Absolutely. That's a lot less work and expense than simply getting the service manual...

First I want to thanks all for the help and information. I replaced the Crank shaft sensor and cam sensor on the vehicle. Currently the vehicle is running like a champ. I am seriously indebted to all who help. Once again I am proud to be a member this forum.
