I'm assuming that most of you use Mobil 1 oil. I can't help wondering which of the numerous iterations of Mobil 1, do most folks use?
Does the "Extended Performance" for instance, really extend the useful life of the oil, or is it just a gimmick?
If you change your own oil, which do you buy?
If you have the oil changed for you, which does your dealer/service center use? Do you request they use a specific variety of Mobil 1?
Thanks for your responses.
I should have done a search before starting this thread. I see now it's been done to death. If there's a Mod available, feel free to remove it...thanks

I use Mobil1 in all of my vehicles, the Vette and Z28 get 5W30 extended performance. The z28 has 315,000 miles on it and I change the oil every 10,000 miles. Works for me. Others will have different opinions but........
Starting in 2011, GM specified dexos1 oil which is a syn-blend - my 2013 C6 owner's manual only mentions dexos1, so that's what I'll use during the warranty period. And pay attention to the oil life monitor ...
It seems a few years ago there was some concern because the M1 "Extended Performance", was not GM approved, but it is now, so I guess there are no issues.
just becareful using the extended if you are using a fast ramp cam
it will last a little longer that the original mobil1
either one is fine, but if you like the lighter/clearer brownish color then extended is for you
i've used both before, and no problems with either
how ever the original mobil1 i believe is cheaper
I was also wondering about differences between M1 5/30 and M1 EP 5/30. Changed the oil recently at 3K miles, and went with the regular one. If oil is going to be changed at 5K miles, which is actually better, if at all? For $2 extra per 5-qts, the EP is basically the same as the other. But I'd like to know if I'd be getting any better additive package, even though I wouldn't push the mileage envelope. Remember reading something about the EP having less desirable additives in order to make it last longer. Doesn't make much sense, but hopefully somebody will chime in with the actual differences. I was hoping EP was a group IV oil (100% synthetic, which regular M1 is not, due to dino base stock), but reportedly it's not. So don't really know the difference. Until I know, will use the regular stuff .

If your going to change your oil every 3 - 5000 miles do not waste your money...just use regular oil.

Not '3-5000 miles'. Read my post: EVERY 5K MILES. And that takes me a year. I'll continue using M1 or M1 EP; the question was which one of them . Difference is about $5 for my dry-sump's 10.5-qt capacity.
More zinc and phosphorous is better because it cushions bearings and rockers better.
According to this Mobil 1 spec sheet, the EP and regular 5-30 have the same zinc and phosphorous levels. It also only says they are both GM Dexos approved. Although for some reason the regular 5-30 says Corvette approved in addition to Dexos. If you out of warranty I would be tempted to run the 0W-30 racing oil for the extra zinc and phosphorous. 1850ppm for the racing oil vs 900ppm for the normal stuff.
