I removed those cheap Mirage (Chinese) headers that I had so much trouble with.
I have been hearing a valve/lifter tap for a while now but thinking that some of these LS3's make that kind of noise from some of the posts I have read.
Well, it turns out that after a year or two the headers developed a crack in one of the tubes which we all know can give that tap type of sound.
I just made the crack repair and Monday I am going to have them coated. Being this is the only thing that has gone wrong after a year or so of easy driving I think the headers will now be trouble free and the coating will kept the heat down in the engine compartment and maybe add some extra horsepower.
Question: does anyone have any specs as to any hp improvements from header coatings? Thanks

Horsepower from header "coatings",lol. All I can tell you is headers are worth 30ish horsepower. Im curious where on earth you came across "mirage" headers, lol. I have never heard of them.
Cheap materials crack. Welcome to Chinese headers. They will eventually do it again. Header coating is more for keeping your underhood temps down. That's about it. I think it's a waste. I just run uncoated stainless headers.

E-bay, If you really want to know more about Mirage headers check out my Mirage header thread below, I think it will blow you away & it's loaded with pics along with performance gains too and lots of negative opinions.
Just got back from my first drive now that it's all back to stock except for the modified OEM cai. I drove approx 60 miles. I thought the car sounded quiet with the headers and stock mufflers but with the exhaust completely back to stock it's as quiet as a tomb, hell I thought am I in a real nice Buick or a big Cadillac.
I think I will live with this sound chamber for awhile. I'm going to take a break from wrenching and enjoy the sound of silence; until it warms up and the tracks open.
Did you change the tune back? You fixed those up really nice. I remember following your thread. That sucks that they cracked. I'm not sure if you'll get any gains from coating them or not? If I guessed, I'd say not.

Yes I changed the tune back to stock. I most likely will put the 91 octane tune back in very soon. I usually run the 91 tune all the time on the street just in case I get some bad gas.
PS: I can tell that the car has lost some of it's bad manners without the tune and headers. Oh, the 91 and 93 octane tune in my car are pretty damn close at the track too.
