I just purchased a direct wire kit for my radar detector. After probing the fuse box under the passenger foot area, I'm not sure where to tap into a switched 12 volt source. The lighters in the car seem to stay energized even when the car is off as does the red with white stripe wire leading to the radio. I don't want to have to turn the detector on and off. I also don't want to kill the battery.
Thanks

Reason: typo
You should have bought a 'mirror tap' wire buddy . It's also sold as 'invisicord'. You don't have to run any wires thru the A-pillar covers. Plus those folks (BlendMount) make an awesome radar detector mount, which many of us use.
But if you insist on using the fuse box, buy a $10 'add-a-fuse' at your local auto-parts store, and use the seat heater fuse, which is rarely used. Good luck.

Already installed. The mirror tap won't work with the Escort live cord.
Do the tap at the wiper fuse thats where I placed mine for my radar detector and Escort Live, go to Autozone , orielly or advance auto and get a "Mini Add a Line" it cost between $5-7 dollars, thats the way to go with a protected circuit.
