Hi,
I have a 2008 convertable. Most of the time when I open the door to get in, the warning beeper goes off until I close the door. I don't think I'm leaving amnything on or doing something wrong.
Also, soemtimes the map lights don't go off. Even if I shut off the motor and lock the doors.
Does anyone know whats going on? I tried several things to see if I'm leaving something on or what.
i'm not positive but for a simple and free thing to do you can...
press the panel brightness button to see if its stuck on. its the **** where you turn up/down the brightness.
pressing it should show them going off and on, if they dont something is stuck on.
info from manual..
Battery Run-Down Protection
This vehicle has a feature to help prevent the battery
from being drained in case any of the following
lamps are left on; the underhood lamp, if your vehicle
has this feature, vanity mirror lamps, cargo lamps,
reading lamps, console or glove box lamps. If any of
these lamps are left on, they will automatically time-out
after about 10 minutes.

No, not exactly. It is the dash dimmer switch near your left knee. However, it's not stuck on - it just goes in and comes back out. What you've accidentally done without realizing it is to push it in (and it came back out) when you shouldn't have.
While seated and the motor running, press that button in and release it again. There will not be a noticeable difference. The map lights will still be on. However, this time, after you shut the engine off, get out of the car, and either let it autolock or whatever you normally do after you get out of the car, the map lights should go out after a few seconds.
ole English car verbage. panel = dash , bonnet = hood , boot = trunk
I was just trying to make sure they realized there was no change in the map lights until you're out of the car with the door closed. Wasn't trying to differentiate between a panel and a dash.

That is extremely annoying, and happens to my '12 GS since day 1. Still don't know why the hell it happens. Some say if you keep the door(s) open for a while with the key near the car. Sometimes I get out of the car right away, and still does it. What I found out is if you close the door and open it again, it'll stop after 4 chimes. An electronic gremlin of some sort. I've tried everything from activating the fob warning, auto-lock, and every possible combination, and same crap. Now I leave everything deactivated, and if the door chimes, do the above and call it a day. No need to take it to a dealer if all do it. Or it hasn't been fixed.
I also find those stupid mirror lights on every once in a while, and no way I had touched that dimmer switch. But it's rare, so just get in, push the damn button, get out, and lights go off after a minute or so. Keep in mind that even if they stay on, battery protection cuts them out after 10 minutes or so. If it's any consolation, you're not alone . Just live with it; nothing you or a dealer can do.

You don't have to keep the door open awhile for it to happen. Even if you close the door immediately, it'll still happen. What's causing it is staying to close to the door with the fob for a few extra seconds, even if the door is closed. Two cures for this, either turn off the fob left in the car warning, or move the fob away from the car door a little more quickly.

You may be hitting that dimmer switch with your left knee and don't realize it.
with Jim above. This point is always difficult to get across though. The dinging when you open the door to get in the car is there because of the way you left the car the last time you got out. Even if the car has been sitting for a week, it is because the car thinks that you left a fob in the car a week ago. If you close the door when you are standing very close to it with the fob in your pocket, the car can be confused and think the fob is still in the car. This is very easy to have happen in a crowded garage where you are pushed up against the car and must close the door in order to walk past it.
Next time you bring the car home, try opening the door and getting out, then while leaving the door open, put the fob 10 feet from the car. Then go back and close the door. The next time you go out to the car, it will not ding ding, even if the next time you drive it is a week or two later.

The former is turned off, so maybe the latter. But it's kind of ridiculous having to walk away from the car with the door open, put the freaking fob somewhere, then go back and close the door . I always close the door and walk away from the car. Guess we have to run .
As I said, an electronic gremlin we have to live with. GM never bothered to update the electronics of that early keyless ignition system. It's a bit embarrassing if you have a passenger, but I rarely do. And my wife already thinks it's a POS .

I only said this to test the system. It is absolutely not necessary to do it every time. If the test works, then just stand slightly further away when closing the door.
