A lot of things play into how much cam you can get away with(cam timing events,lift.etc). When I took the stock ls3 heads and switched to CNC with manely valves, I lost .023 PTV clearance. My cam is decent size but I fly cut .060

I have a 2006 coupe and just had a new Ls2 built with the ls3 topend. I didnt flycut or mill the heads. Texas Speed has a new cam out for ls2 with ls3 topend. It's the biggest cam you can get without flycutting. It's a 235/239 .641/.615. Special lobes give it more PTV clearance. I have a 3200 vigilante stall in mine and this setup runs like a scalded ape.

rough numbers on my cam are 231\240 617\613..so yours is pretty decent sized in my opinion

I think I'm like everyone else being unsure of what is all involved in the fly- cutting. Is this something that can be done at home or special tools and shop required.

It's is the sticky above. Spin monster does a great job documenting and even has the tool for rent last I knew.

I fly cut the pistons. Best mod I have done to date. Car picked up an honest 40 rwhp from just the heads and intake on a before and after pull on the same dyno.

For the DIY, selling off your original 243/799 heads and intake make the head swap doable for a few 100.

Awesome results, if anyone in New England would like an LS2/3 cylinder head/cam swap, please call the shop.
