Default Vette Air - Y/N?

Have LS3, Z06 air bridge/filter, Vmax ported TB, Kooks headers and dyno tune ... car runs great!

Considering propping shroud or adding Vette Air to get cooler air in for hot days/engine operating temps. So, what to do ...

- leave it as is
- prop shroud using redneck, but proven methods (toggle bolts)
- go with Vette Air ($124 for $5 plastic scoop looking thing)

Your $0.02?

Check the Halltech site. They show their recommended shroud opening for their Beehive. It allows cool air in but minimizes possibility of surge from too much air directly aimed at the filter. It will do the job and cost nothing.

Can you please provide a link? I looked into the site but couldn't find anything about opening the shroud. Thanks!

The VetteAir is nice, and I have one, but you probably can get buy with just cutting a slot in your shroud in front of the radiator with a knife. People have done this, but I would cut it over to each side, near the corners of the area. Maybe this will keep down the turbulence in the area, which can require a tune to get rid of. Putting a hole directly under the filter area will most likely cause a surging problem.
Opening the shroud, which I do not have a link for, is doing about the samething without the cuttting.

Go to halltechsystems.com

Top right side of menu - click "install"

First list of instructions "Beehive install with cold air ports"

I did this mod and it worked for both the oem intake and the MF 103 without surge issues. Do not open more than what is instructed because you may get surging issues. This mod is a good way to get more ambient air in, but you need the Beehive Shroud to keep hot engine air out in stop and go traffic.

OP - I had a modded C5 with an older CAI that was made much like the Vette Air ..... I was concerned about water intake as it was also a daily driver -- but never had any problems.... what I did think though, was that the space the "scoop" takes up in the air flow to the radiator made the car run hotter. It would really heat up on track days.

I have the attack blue filter and I cut a hole directly in front of the filter and have no turbulance or surging and no tune at the time that included this mod. Dont know if its the filter or what but all good for about 1 1/2 yrs.

Man....you are lucky. Some guys have a surg problem with the filter alone, must less having the fresh air at the filter. I had problems with surging once I mounted the VetteAir with a stock filter. It didn't show up until I went full throttle, tho.

If you remember I did that ram air thing on my 98 and on the 01 Z. It did make about 3MPH difference in the qtr. Only issue is if the mods you have already done will contribute to surging. There is a comparision thread I read once that compared all the filters to stock, stock Z and other after market pieces.

We have had great results using the Vette-Air in conjuction with the Halltech MF 103 on the Z. (No turbulence, no water ingestion)

The KillerB and most other after market intakes have a plate at the bottom of the filter that acts as a diffuser, and it helps with the problem of turbulence. The stock one is opened at the bottom....this can cause a problem. Every car is different tho. I didn't have a problem until I did a full throttle, but some had problems just putting around town.
