Default 2012 A6 Transmission Odd Behavior

I have some odd behavior coming from my A6 transmission since installing Corsa Xtreme exhaust this past weekend. After the install I noticed that when I shifted out of park it was smoother than before. No problems. But as I have been driving the car this past week I noticed one day when going from Drive to Reverse, the shifter moved and the light indicated it was in Reverse but it was actually in Neutral because the engine just revved and didn't move. I pushed the shifter further forward and then it engaged reverse. I've now noticed that when the shifter is in Drive it very easily slides to Sport Mode or Neutral without pressing the button but nothing ever changes, I can leave it in what it says the shifter indicates is "Neutral" but the car is still cruising along in Drive. I've read some similar posts regarding a cable connected to the transmission that can come loose during an exhaust install but I've haven't seen where its located nor have I seen anything a miss under the car, which of course I did jack it back up and look under the car and check everything out that I could see. All looked fine. I also don't have any error codes or lights going off to indicate a problem and today I got my OnStar email regarding my diagnostic report which of course said everything was fine except low tire pressure in the front tires. I'm calling the dealership first thing in the morning but I was curious if anyone else had experienced this or had any ideas? The car is a 2012 Base coupe with 2,200 miles on it.

Nope, that's the one thread I didn't see. Thanks so much for your help. I'm sure I did like most people and saw that linkage as just something that was in my way of removing the stock exhaust, knocked it loose but didn't think anything about it. I'll be jacking it back up tonight and taking a look at it. Thanks again.

Well I got under the car today to finally take a look at that linkage piece that may have popped loose and it was. I followed what was said in the thread with the picture (put the car in Park, rotated that bolt clockwise and then pop in that T-shaped plastic piece). The problem I have now is that the shift pattern in the car seemed to have shifted forward. Reverse is now located half way between Park and Reverse, Neutral is now Reverse, Neutral is now Drive and Drive is now Sport mode and the IDK what supposedly is going on when the shifter is indicating Sport Mode. The shifter still slips between all the gears with just a flick and without pressing the button except to get it out of Park. Any thoughts other than taking it in to the dealer?

Did you climb back underneath the car after reconnecting it and going through each of the gears? There are threads on that plastic piece (similar to how a zip tie works) and it almost sounds like you may have stripped them somehow or just didn't lock it back into place properly.

If you do end up taking it to the dealership and have to pay for it out of pocket, make sure they don't charge you for any more than 2.7 hours as that's all the service manual says it should take.

Its out of adjustment now by a tad. Pull the plastic T up and re-adjust it and snap it back into place. More than likely the shifter was not all the way into park when you did it the first time. I normally unhook the T, pop into the car and move shifter into reverse then back into park. Head back under and make sure the trans shift arm it "clicked" in the most clockwise position and snap the T lock into place.
