Default MagneRide Retrofit..? Help?

Hi guys, I'm new here so I'll cut to the chase, I know zero about the C6 besides it's engine and I was wondering if you could retrofit the MagneRide shocks/controller to a 2006 Base C6 that didn't come with them from the factory, and if I couldn't do that, what would a good alternative be? I'm looking for a more comfortable ride without sacrificing handling, and better in both categories if possible (hence the magneride option), thanks! Also, the roads here are ridiculously rough :P

if you mean this..

Selective Ride Control
The vehicle may have a ride control
system called Magnetic Selective
Ride Control. The system provides
the following performance benefits:
. Reduced Impact Harshness
. Improved Road Isolation
. Improved High-Speed Stability
. Improved Handling Response
. Better Control of Body Ride
Motions

TOUR: Use for normal city and
highway driving. This setting
provides a smooth, soft ride.
SPORT: Use where road conditions
or personal preference demand
more control. This setting provides
more “feel,” or response to the road
conditions.

my answer is not worth the cost. for normal driving, i have it and feel NO difference at all. the cost would be excessive even if you could add it.

replace run flats with NON run flats and you will have a smoother ride and a quieter one too!!!!!!

Most people who have the F55 Magnetic Ride are pleased with it. Some with base cars like the OP have said the F55 is a little too soft in Tour, driving behind them on the interstate they do bound around like worn-out shocks but that's just how it looks from the outside.

All the experts have said that trying to add it afterwards is prohibitively complicated and expensive. Considering all the parts in the car that interact with the F55, I expect they are correct.

Koni makes their FSD shocks that are claimed to be soft for the sharp movements of a rough road, but stiff for the slower movements of cornering. Most people say they work well, a few say they feel like just another set of stiff shocks. No personal experience with those, but I replaced th factory shocks on our Z51 suspension with base model shocks because of the bad roads in Illinois. My butt, and my back, say the Z51 springs/sways and the base shocks, give a very nice combination of ride and handling.

I've owned F55 and nonf55 c6s and I prefer the f55 equipped car but its not worth the money to have it installed. Not sure you can find a dealer willing to take on the project.

The koni shocks are the next best thing. Do a search for koni fsd

Most coilovers are oriented more toward handling than ride. Use caution.

Everyone who makes shocks seems to believe his product will provide a nicer ride, better handling, more mpg, and eliminate world hunger. I'm skeptical.

haha, so true, ya, I thought about the stiffness of the ride, but it can't be that much worse than stock, I think i'm going to give the koni FSP's a shot first, thanks

Dumping the run-flats will make a huge difference in ride quality. Trying to retrofit the Magnetic Ride system would be very hard and expensive.

I say add Koni FSD shocks and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires (runflat or non-runflat - I have used them both and did not see much difference between the two). Then if you want to corner harder, add Pfadt JOC sway bars. There are occasionally some Koni FSD shocks for sale on here. Had them on my 05 C6 and loved them. I have F55 now. Not sure that it is much better than the FSD's

But at $7,637 plus installation I think it would be cheaper to buy a different car with F55.

Thanks for that comment. The NCCC regional autocross champs in or area from a couple of years ago (husband and wife, both winners) had the original PS2 non-runflats, then got the runflat version when it came out. They said the about same thing- couldn't tell any difference in ride between the two, and they won the region on the runflats.

Runflats have come a long way in the last few years.

Geez - you got me started. I searched the threads and the Koni FSD seem to be really popular. But the price is high! I did quit a bit of searching and found one shop that has them for $638 dropped shipped from the manufacturer. Not the best vendor ratings on the internet though. Figure I would take a chance as I can always dispute the credit card charge. I ordered a set because $160 a shock is high but not that much more than the "average" $100 shock and nothing like the cost of the F55 or the other alternatives.

Looking at the manual looks simple enough to R&R.

All I can do is sit back and wait before posting an outcome. Hope the ride difference it is worth the $.

The installation isn't complicated, but there are a few minor issues that can puzzle you. There have been some good threads here about doing the installation, I'd suggest looking them up.

It's just me, but I ordered all new fasteners etc when I changed my shocks.
