Was working on the vette today and allowed the battery to get too low....Put it on the charger and it started and runs ok...Battery voltage is back to the 12.3 v plus range.
However, I now have a column lock message even though I have the column lock bypass from Corvettes of Houston.....any thoughts on this ?
I assume it's because the battery got too low...but I need to clear this message from my driver Info center...any thoughts ?
FYI..I just spoke with Corvettes of Houston who I bought the column lock eliminator from....seems that the low voltage in the battery triggered the Service Column Lock message...will have to go to a shop to have the message cleared.
i'm not experienced with this , but from what i can tell , it's a Cxxxx code type error. i would think that it should clear itself rather than having a Tech2 code reader force it clear.
i would disconnect the (fully charged) battery , reconnect, restart and see if message is gone.
Thanks ...I have done the disconnect battery thing and the message is still there. I have owned a lot of different makes but the Vettes are really sensitive to voltage variances.
True, they are very sensitive to low voltage. The code will clear itself after a certain number of run cycles...if it's inconvenient to get to a code reader.

Service Column Lock message after eliminator installed
I am really stumped and need help. recently purchased a 2005 vert manual trans with 50K on the odometer. The service column lock message showed up almost immediatly. Having done some reseach before I bought the car I expected the COH's lock eliminator would fix the problem. I installed the lock eliminator and the first drive (60 miles) no DIC message. Next drive I started getting the code again. I thought maybe the controller the eliminator plugged into was bad. Again first drive (30 miles) after installation no codes. Next day started getting the codes. The column has never actually locked. you can turn the wheel full cirlce when the car is off, not running or in assessory mode. Do I need to pull the steering wheel and actually replace the column lock mechinism? Has anyone else heard of the lock eliminator not working?
Thank you all for your time and recommendations. Love the car, just cannot imagine that I will need to reset this message every ten minutes or so when it appears.
I went back trough the process to install the CLE and realized that when I unplugged the Column Lock from the module my DIC did not realize the column lock was disconnected. So that tells me something up stream is not working. Has anyone heard of any other process to eliminate the Column lock? I am thinking one of the previous owners disconnected something and it is effecting the column lock and not realizing it. I do know the trans speed sensor is disconnect on the transmission. I think they diconnected that to avoid the 1st to 4th shift. Any help is greatly apprciated.

Reason: recall something different during installationd of the CLE.
