Default Is it worth it ??

I have an 05 (A4) with the following mods

1. Vararam CAI
2. FTI 2800 converter
3. Ported stock LS2 Intake
4. Kooks Headers
5. Tune by Cartek

I have run a best of 11.61 @ 118 mph and want a little more ET...however I don't have the $2000 + for a cam... can anyone throw some suggestions...

I'm "OLD" (70 yr) and have to drive 100 miles each way to Englishtown... I Bracket Race" so I HAVE to be "CONSISTENT" (no Nitrous, or power adder)

I know I could go to GTO spare tire wheels but don't want to be changing tires every time I race..

I was thinking of going to 1.8 RR and have the heads ported ? good or not... any other suggestions ??

Thanks

I think a fast intake is a great mod for the LS2 engine. It should pick up a few more mph and at least 2 to 4 tenths over your ported stock intake. I think Z06 mufflers with a MTW will also help and left in closed positon is as quiet as stock.

Dennis the ported FAST intake will probably cost me $900-$1000 + the cost of porting and installation + putting the car back on the Dyno... I have 3.15 gears now, but yes 3.73 sounds good (I had 3.73's in my 1996 C4) and ran 12.23 and never had the heads off .. just 1.6 RR

What do you think of 1.8 RR in my C6 and maybe an underdrive pulley.. might pick up .2 and it would be a lot less $$

I'm thinking I would need new valve springs, and push-rods to keep the correct geomertry... I don't have any idea how much gain I'd get from just 1.8 RR and pulley but the did help my C4 when I switched from 1.5 to 1.6 RR .. I was told by going to 1.8 RR on my car now I'd get app .25-.30 more lift....??

yes you would pick up 30 lift and 2 duration but i doubt you would see any gain, you can find a used one fast 90 92 ported, i remember running 11.62 with converter in december 40 degrees then gears took me to 11.62 in 90 degree weather, fast 90 took me down to low 11s, your car runs about like mine with the same mods except i weigh more

A Yank SS3600 or better yet SS4000 with 3.73 gears will really wake your car up.

John,
I hate to say it but I still believe you left too much on the table with your converter. If you do gears, will they re-stall it higher for you for free like Yank will?

I've seen results of a couple examples of the 1.8 rockers gaining around 7-8whp. Don't know if that's worth it or not to you.

If you do a pulley change I would recommend an ATI unit. Also instead of having you heads ported, it may be better to just buy after market heads and then sale yours to someone else. You may be able to do the same thing if you buy the FAST, buy the FAST and sell you stock intake.

jpee for $1000. you can do the Fast 102 complete by yourself.it should be fine with no additioal tuning.checked mine on dyno and a/f was fine although tuning may pick up a little more. fairly easy install.sent you PM.that price includes porting

Rockers can be a 'hit or miss' type of deal.
Yes they're cheaper than a cam of course but that's still A LOT of money for only 7 or 8 (or even 10) horsepower (if that).
And if he was going to get a FAST intake on there (which I do agree yields a VERY nice gain) I wish he'd have skipped having had his factory LS2 manifold ported (which DID help him by the way) first, he could've put that money towards the new FAST. I believe a few of us had even suggested that before he had it done.

Other brands are a little cheaper but don't have nearly the same level of quality.

I agree this will really be a great boost. Also a Fast 90 or 92 (one of the best head guys told me there was no gain in the 92 on the flow bench), so buy the cheapest used one you can find. These 3 items will really knock off some ET.
