Default Air Scoop

Bought a new grand sport, any benefit from opening the small scoop on the front header panel to get some fresh air to engine compartment?. Any benefit from changing original spark plugs and wires to irridium plugs and msd plug wires?

1. No, not in my opinion, but no harm if you like the look of an open scoop. One of my pet peeves (that started in the 70's) is fake scoops on a car that don't actually have air moving through them. I have a '74 Trans Am that was, from the factory, a glaring example of this.
2. The stock plugs are already iridium and the stock wires are fine...after all, they are only about 3 inches long, there's just not that much room for improvement.

Opening the "scoop" can cause a CEL for the MAF.

Isn't the front scoop already opened allowing air flow in? It's design to bring in fresh air from the top of the filter housing down into the filter area without causing turbulent flow that can result in surging. Opening the shroud in front of the filter may cause surging.

Question two already answered - stock plugs are iridium. MSD wires will yield 0 hp.

The "scoop" is not open, unless you count a couple of 1/4" holes with baffles. Your statement about turbulent flow is why it isn't open.
