Thunk/clunk when backing with wheels turned...Normal?
Naturally I did it backwards...
I took it to the Mechanic after I bought it.
Good news is he said it is a really nice car... he found tiny tiny oil leak and this thunking/clunking noise when backing up with wheels turned, repetiative noise...
told me to go to local perfomance shop ( they see alot more Vette rears than he does).. and ask them to listen to it... they said keep an eye on it let them know if it gets worse... I do have a warranty that should cover this ( but not on day 2 of ownership... I will wait and monitor it... but just want to know if others have same issue ,or had it, and know what the repair was for it... perfomance shop said could upgrade as part of a repair ( I am guessing replace the rear), just pay the difference over factory part repair... what to up grade to??
Then tried to tell me I needed a dyno tune ,Borla touring cat back ,and cold air intake. (salemen are always salesmen).... but sounds cool..
any help would be great 2006 3LT coupe 6spd,3.42 gears 51k miles
Use the latest version of GM differential fluid (#88862624) and a good 4-way alignment (specs available at Phadt).
It made a HUGE difference on my '07.

Thanks that is the part i told him to order.... will consider the alignment, but tires are worn very even and vehicle doesn't pull or drift
the diff should bind some on sharp turns when cold if it was the fluid, mine did. The only "clunk" I have had, & it took me a while to figure it out, was when I parked the car and engaged the parking brake after washing it or if the brakes were hot. it seems the pads would "stick to the rotors" you could see a perfect outline of the pads on the face of the rotor.
