I went to the track (first time) this past weekend and made four passes. I'm really new at this, as I've never been on a track before but since I am wanting to start upgrading my vehicle I wanted to get a few base line runs. I have a 2010 C6 3lt mode base model with a manual transmission. My first couple runs ran pretty good, won my first one and lost the second to a motorcycle. Didn't burn out at all before start and was running in competition mode. On my next two passes my rev limiter kicked in at around 4000 rpms in every gear on both passes. I am thinking maybe I didn't give it enough time to cool down and that's what caused it because when we came home, I took her on a back road and set the car up exactly like I had it on the track with the same take off and everything and the car performed just like it did the first two passes of the day. I noticed the oil temperature got to about 232 degrees F and the car temp was right at normal. Any information would be great as I am a new comer to racing and would like to learn as much as I can for my knowledge and to make sure my car doesn't get hurt. Thank yall!
Are you sure it was the rev limiter kicking in and not the traction control? Maybe the tires were breaking loose which would cause the system to start cutting fuel...
I was thinking that could have been it too because of the water we drive through to get to the starting line and didnt do a burn out to heat up the tires. I've always heard though its not good to burn out on street tires, but not sure how true that is. I have the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 Wide Ovals. I can't really tell the difference because it felt just like it was the rev limiter kicking in.
Yeah, sounds like traction control. The DTC will have a message if TC is active.
Also, you may want to drive around the water box on street tires. Most tracks will point you around the box if you're on street tires so there should be a way around.
I don't think so. Fist of all, in competition mode, TC is turned off. And even if that wasn't the case, maybe in 1st the tires could suddenly break loose right at 4K rpm. But at exactly 4K rpm in 'EVERY GEAR'? No way, especially in 3rd on a regular Vette. Maybe in a GS (just kidding).
Anyway, sounds like 'limp mode' was activated for some reason OP. What was your oil pressure? Is your oil level okay? Anyway, check for codes just for the heck of it, but that shouldn't have happened. Next time look into your dash for either a warning message, or the T/C icon, even though it's supposed to be off in competition mode. And if that happens again, turn off everything (if you feel comfortable doing that ), to prove that's not the issue. Good luck.
Ah, I hadn't caught the 3rd / 4th gear. You're right. Can't be TC. I know oil temp at 232 doesn't cause limp home mode, so was anything else really high like the water temp or ???
As far as I could tell everything looked normal. When I hit up the track again, Ill see about paying more attention to see if I can figure out what else could be going wrong. Everything seems to be running smooth right now and hoping maybe it was just a glitch since I've never really run the car that hard. Thanks for all your input and my first upgrade is going to be the JOC stage 1 kit, hopefully getting it next month.
