Default 103 octane

Planning on taking my 2010 Grand Sport to the track. Was curious if 103 octane will improve my car's performance. Or will it hamper it because the computer doesn't like it? Any insight appreciated!

waste of money for stock car. your profile says nothing about your car. have you run on a track before? one other, i dont think 103 is unleaded.

I've talked to a couple tuners, Zip & Halltech, who've said that the stock tune is optimized for 93, & the factory tune is pulling a small amount of timing on 91.

From what I understand, unless your car is "tuned" for higher octane it will do nothing for performance. I believe the factory tune is for 91 octane. Put 92 or 93 octane in to ensure your fuel lets your tune run for the best performance possible.

Unless its one of VP's special race fuels, it does not have any more energy than 93 octane. The only advantage to 103 octane is you can run more timing advance and compression and it will resist detonation better than 93.
Also, if it is leaded 103, it will clog up your cats very quickly.

I have found with the stock or the diablo tunes that my car runs its best on a good 93 like Mobil. I have used 100 unleaded octane a coupe of times when my tank went low at the track and saw nothing. The 100 seemed to have even slowed the car up some, the reason for that is the higher octane "may" burn at a slower rate which does not match the timing in the tune so you lose hp.

I would try 94 Sunoco if I could find it just to see.

I wish we had Sunoco in my part of the country. I remember when you could mix your octane all the way to 103 at Sunoco by turning a dial. I run either Shell or BP since my dyno tuner says these perform best on dyno pulls and he likes BP 93 best.

I have read that BP is one of the best too, Most of the time it's the three brands; Mobil, Shell, BP, with BP being #1 or 2 on most lists.
