Got some bad news today,
On Sat. the z started having heavy valve train noise with oil pressure fluttering while pulling into work. Car was a little low on oil so I added some turned it on everything normal...Perfect oil pressure no noise but gave it gas and started hearing a bearing noise and oil pressure started fluttering along with valve train noise. Turned it off had to towed to the a dealer that was worked with me since iv had the car.
They opened it up today to find the point of failure..
Cam (gt20) has some pitting and rash, Lifters had some rash but no pitting, one lifter unable to be remove from bore. It will move up and down but not out. Heads look good.
Its an 06 z with 36k miles. Bought it with 24k miles and the cam already in the car.
Is there any tricks to getting a lifter out of the bore without damaging the bore?
Anyone else have issues with a cam causing a motor to fail?
take the cam out and try to get it from the bottom..i had the same issue when i trashed my LS2..lifter had to come out through the bottom..obviously it was easier for me to get it out because i pulled the motor and tore everything down..and it was right next to the cam entrance..if you can't pull it from the top there's a chance the lifter bore is damaged..
