I have a 08 base model, the coil on the a/c compressor is shorted out and blows fuse everytime you turn on a/c. I hear removing the compressor is a big job. I was hoping to just replace the coil. not sure if a special puller is needed.
You are not going to save any money my replacing the clutch coil on the compressor. On e-bay a vendor sells new GM compressors for around $300. complete. Undo top of r/f shock, take out top r/f a-frame bolts and loosen the 4 front sub frame bolts and let the frame drop down and go thru the pass tire area. You can change the compressor with no problem, it will drop out the side over the sum frame when you lower that side down enough. Can be done in a couple of hours with basic tools. Then have it evacuated and recharged when done. Just did this last summer.
If you just replace the A/C clutch the problem is that GM does not sell the clutch part only complete compressors. You will spend as much or more just replacing the A/C clutch. And yes a special puller is needed for the A/C clutch.
get a new compressor @ $300 its easy. either pull the t-stat and hose off and slide it out through the front or pull the right cat / header out & pull it out the rear. either way it's about 1 hour to swap. then you have to fill the system. you need a special tool to swap the coil out.
That sounds like a plan, I just had an alignment last week, hate to undo the cradle and throw the alignment out. Also would it help to change the t-stat to a lower temp while i have it out? thanks for the help.
