Hey guys recently noticed the notorius wobble on my 05 C6.. I have made a horrible mistake of taking everything apart while waiting on my powerbond underdrive to be delivered. In my hurry to pull this car apart I somehow forgot to mark the crank and stock balancer is there any other way I can find how to line the new balancer up on the crank so the motor will not be out of balance ... I know this was incredibly irresponsible on my part but any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you all in advanced
Someone who has more knowledge in the replacement of the HB can add to this, but the HB does not balance the engine in the way you are thinking. It is basically a rotating mass that is rubber mounted to allow it to counteract torsional vibrations in the crank assembly. In other words, The balancer is not heavier on one side to counteract the fact that the crank is heavier on the other side. That kind of balancing is done (if it is needed) by the flexplate or flywheel at the other end of the engine...depending on whether the engine is an internally or externally balanced one. I hope this makes sense...it's hard to explain...
I did a Jegg's... There are timing marks on the new HB, but I could not find any on the car.
I just sealed the slot for the key and slid the new HB on...

the balancer is neutral balanced and functions correctly in any of the 360 degrees of rotation that you install it unless you remove weights from it as delivered from the manufacturer.
I does not make a difference. If you want, spin the engine to top dead center and then slide it on, but you don't have to. I would suggest pinning the crank while you have it apart.
Everyone says it doesn't matter.
Even the GM service manual doesn't seem to clearly call out the need to match the harmonic balancer to the engine. They talk about replacing the weights in the balancer, but it is not clear. Hey, I replaced mine with no ill effects.
However, take a look at this video.
This is a youtube video from National Geographic of GMs builds of the corvette ZR-1.
13.06...Hmm. I clearly see weights being added to the harmonic balancer while it is attached to the engine.
From the overdubbed announcer, and what the worker appears to be doing, it looks like the harmonic balancer IS balanced as part of the engine. At least on the ZR-1.
if you have a 2005 and it's seial # is in the range of known problems and it has not been fixed GM WILL fix! regaurdless of warranty, it was a recall if yours is just osolating back and forth LIKE ALL STOCK HB'S THEN THERE IS NOTHING WRONG!

LS2 in an internally balanced engine, no weights on the outside no drilling
Hey guys.. Thanks for your all of your input apparently gm had already " fixed " I was told if there was red on the back of the bolt gm had done the repair but once the balance came off the rubber seal was coming out of the HB ... Since we are already this far in the engine bay decided to go with a cam install ... Any essentials I need to consider while I'm in here besides cam spring and push rods ?? Thanks for all your advice!
